We are also proud that Crossway-the major ESV publisher-has begun to produce sewn bindings on all of its leather Bibles.

1. Allan Bibles-
R.L. Allan is recognized in the Bible publishing industry, to be the overall best. Allan publishes the ESV, KJV and NIV in its unique Goatskin bindings. Allan's attention to detail, old school hand finished techniques, and small publication runs produces a beautiful and durable Bible. Allan Bibles are bound in Great Britain.

2. Allan Journals-
Allan currently produces 2 Goatskin journals. Hand finished journals come in 2 sizes. The Larger Allan Journal (AJ) is 7 3/4 x 5 1/16 inches x 3/8" - It is bound in Buffalo Grain Goatskin (Black and Brown) The more compact Allan journal (AJP) is 6 1/8 x 4 1/2 inches-comes in Black, Brown and Tan, and is bound in Allan's signature Goatskin.

3. Cambridge Bibles-
Cambridge has a long history of Bible publishing (1591). We stock their most durable. Listed below are a few of our favorite.
1. Cambridge Wide Margins-Available in ESV, KJV, NKJV, NASB and NIV. These are the best Wide Margins Bibles published. Cambridge made no mistakes here-the paper is oqaque, margins are wide, binding is sewn. This is an evangelicalbible.com favorite.
2. Cambridge Pitt Minions- available in ESV, KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASB and NIV. We count these to be the best overall pocket/compact Bibles available. Surprisingly legible for its size.
3. Cambridge Concord Classic Reference (KJV)-An excellent classic KJV Bible. We can't say enough about this Bible. It is the best in its class.
4. Cambridge Presentation (KJV)-This is is the Cambridge 'cadillac' KJV Bible. Its only rival is the R.L. Allan Longprimer (53). The Presentation has a large bold print face and of course, presentation pages which will be handed down to posterity.

4. Crossway Bibles-
Crossway is the official publisher of the ESV translation. Crossway produces an excellent line of Bibles as well. We recommend purchasing a Genuine leather (or premium leather) Bible from Crossway, because it will have a sewn binding-which is a key compontent in durability. Other non leather Bibles, while more affordable, will have a shorter lifespan. The ESV Study Bible remains one of the most popular Bibles in the US.

Exclusive ESV Crossway Ranking: Crossway's Top 3 Bibles.

These rankings are a product of years of customer interaction as well as our professional opinions. We have always put Genuine Leather and Calfskin Bibles in our rankings, because these all have Sewn Bindings-which we believe to be a critical component of Bible manufacturing. Crossway manufactures many excellent Bibles that did not reach our 'top 3' list. Please research the Bible that will suit your individual needs. evangelicalbible.com has an entire page devoted to Bible information. Another resource for Bible design is Mark Bertrand, who was consulted for this project. Please keep in mind that these are Crossway Publisher ESV rankings-and therefore do not apply to R.L. Allan Bibles, Cambridge or Oxford ESV Bibles.

1. Single Column Reference Bible (Brown/Cordovan or Black Calfskin)

We put the SCR to be at the top of the line for a few reasons. First- the 'legibility' factor. The 10.0 font type, as well as the format style produced a text that is substantially easier to read than the Classic Reference Bible. (Here is a sample of the text) One of the biggest single factors for Bible customers is legibility. After all we usually purchase these Bibles in order to read them. The biggest complaint over the years is print quality. The SCR has done a great job in producing a format that is easy to read. The second most important factor to many is paper quality. Recently Crossway updated its paper quality on the Calfskin and Brown/Portfolio Editions-the other 2 editions have paper that is too thin for notetaking. Another important feature for many is margin width. The SCR has over a 1" margin for notes. Finally the SCR has all of the references and concordance found in the Classic Reference Bible.

2. Large Print Bible (Genuine Leather or Calfskin)
The Crossway Large Print in Genuine Leather and Calfskin is a firm favorite. This Bible by virtue of its type size is the most legible ESV currently available anywhere. The 12.75 font size, while being Large is not GIANT. It is easy on the eyes without having the 'children's book' appearance of some Giant Prints. With opaque paper, wider margins and a sturdy sewn binding-this is simply a superb Bible. The Large Prints do lack the reference system, which is important for some. 3. Classic Reference (Genuine Leather or Calfskin)
A good solid Bible with a wealth of information. The Classic Reference has the works: The 80,000 entry reference system, 14,500 concordance and full color maps. The calfskin Bibles are leather lined-and have a soft and supple binding....So after all the accolades, why have we not put this version on top. The one area that we would like to see improved is legibility. The 9.5 font could be larger and bolder. For many readers this would not be an issue, however, there are many Bible readers whose primary concern is legibility. Click here for more information.
