First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.

The new Longprimer Sovereign edition retains the same clear, bold type as the standard Longprimer but is printed on a 38gsm writable Bible paper with the highest levels of opacity, and increased margins (one inch on outside and bottom edges) to show the text block off to greatest effect and further enhance the reading experience.

Brown Highland goatskin with full yapp and red under gold page edges, leather-lined in matching dark brown with double gilt lines inside, three ribbon markers, with presentation pages and family record in new improved design, dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance, 32 pages lined writing paper and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.

I owned a 53 Longprimer already, but was excited about the prospect of a wider area to place some notes. So I found someone willing to purchase my 53 to help pay for this one. I just received it today. It is constructed with the same quality as my 53. What immediately struck me was how heavy it is due to the thicker paper used. They did this to allow for better writing performance on the page. It is the same text block, with a wider “margin.” But it is indeed much heavier. So keep this in mind if you are trying to decide between the two. You cannot go wrong with an Allan! And you cannot go wrong with! They have been very helpful.

A wonderful KJV. See my full review, replete with photos, here:

From the conclusion to my blog review: “In what sense is this Bible “Sovereign” among other KJV Bibles? Size? No, I’ve seen bigger, though at the right velocity the 63 would knock you to your knees in its presence! Beauty? Readability? Opacity? In each category, you may argue that a different KJV is better (though others might argue back!). But when you combine factors, I don’t think another KJV does as many things well as the 63 (except for portability, of course!). So in that sense, it does deserve the moniker “Sovereign.” If your primary translation of choice is the KJV, I think this one is likely worth the cost, and I think it will be your favorite.”

A beautiful Bible. Nice dark print and big. I have two of these Bibles. The second one is in the blue cover. I put them together to see which I liked best but felt like I might drool (slobber) on one of them. If you could afford only one Bible I say that the Sovereign Longprimer in any color would be my choice of any Bible. They say touch me, handle me, more so, read me. See how gorgeous I am? Ok so they didn’t talk to me but I sure talked to them. Thanks Allan and evangelical for the best service and Bibles around.

Having already owned the blue Longprimer Sovereign, and since that Bible is the absolute best Bible I have ever owned, I wanted to give the brown one a chance to impress, and does it ever!
The goatskin leather on this brown sovereign (at least my copy) is much softer than the blue one is.
In my opinion, the Longprimer Sovereign is RL Allan’s absolute best!
My blue one still has this incredibly aromatic smell to it, even after all this time, and it’s out of the box every day. I highly recommend the brown goatskin leather edition of the Allan Longprimer Sovereign–you won’t be disappointed!

I had the Schuyler ESVQ. It was a 5 star and I had stated that if you wanted the best then go that route. I was mistaken. I finally purchased my first Longprimer and you at evangicalbible should be ashamed that you don’t allow us to give 10 stars to this Bible. This is the Lamborghini of Bibles! Schuyler is the Porsche. Both are that close! Don’t buy anywhere but evangicalbible. They are the best in customer service. Will be buying more from them. Pitt Minion next. Allan is the best!
