Allan’s new ESV1 Bible in burgundy is a beautiful Bible.
It presents with a much improved text block over the first one that came out a few years back.
Hats off to Crossway for that improved block. Printed in China, the 36 gsm is very opaque and then their red letter is very nice as well printed on high quality paper.
The Allan binding was done at Ludlow Bindery in England, where they gave this Bible a New Zealand goatskin cover that is soft and very supple. The NZ goatskin is very plush and soft. Extremely supple and rivals their usual Highland goatskin.
Beautiful also are the navy blue calfskin liners and 3 Beresford ribbons complementary to the burgundy cover.
This new rendition of the ESV1 is I mentioned above is an improvement over they first round that was printed many years ago. Back then, the paper was not high quality as it was stiff and not very opaque.
One awesome surprise in this Bible- Crossway added many illustrations that are found in their excellent ESV Study Bible! So now , next to the Allan Bravier Clarendon w/ cyclopedic concordance, the new Allan ESV1 makes a nice small study Bible with unique features that are not found in many larger Bibles.
If you love the ESV, you’ll love this one for it’s nice price tag, high quality, usability as a study Bible ,and portability.

The best premium leather ESV at its price point. Allan has partnered with Ludlow to produce something amazing, a binding that is just as luxurious as those bound in London. And this Chinese-printed text block has less ghosting than my Dutch-printed Allan ESVNC1 (the 2013 edition, that is, not the new 2016 one which I haven’t seen yet). A portable, readable Bible perfect for any use.
