Many thanks to Nicholas Gray and everyone at R.L. Allen for producing the NASB Reader’s Edition (NASB R1). This bible has all of the top quality characteristics that are trademark of Allen’s covering and binding. However, what makes this bible distinct, even among other Allen’s, is the unmatched paper quality and superior printing done by Jongbloed in the Netherlands! There is no better quality NASB available in the market today!

The NASB Reader is one of the finest products Allan has produced to date. Given it\’s improved paper quality, and fine printing from Jongbloed, this edition tops all NASB\’s that are available for-sale anywhere. The NASB Large Print Ultrathin Reference was an excellent choice for such a project as this. Very well done.

My long waited Brown R.L. Allan NASB Reader arrived after great anticipation. As soon as I removed the wrapping and held in it my hand I said “Wow” aloud! It fit so nicely in my hand and it seemed to ooze with the feeling of luxury. I own the Lockman Publisher’s Ultra-Thin Large Print calfskin edition which I would consider the prototype to the R.L. Allan NASB Reader. I love the bright white thick high quality paper Lockman used in their version. I will have to confess that the first thing that came to mind as I held the new R.L. Allan NASB Reader was that it was noticeably slimmer than my Lockman version. I was hoping that Allan did not use that cheap super thin paper that scares the day lights out of you as soon as open the bible and see the ghosting peering from the other side of the page, but thankfully they used a high grade paper. Now, I will tell you there is definite difference between Lockman’s paper and the Allan’s NASB. The Lockman paper has very little if any ghosting, whereas the Allan has some ghosting. The ghosting is about equal to R.L. Allan’s Longprimers. However, when you consider the addition of 40 pages of line paper while still being able to reduce the overall the thickness 1/4 inch it is worth it. Another interesting fact about the Allan NASB Reader is the color of the paper. The paper is beige instead of the bright white; this reminds me of the color of parchment paper (but not quite as dark). The paper color not only gives an “old world look”, it also reduces glare and is easy on your eyes in direct sun light. The print is identical to my Lockman Ultra-Thin Large Print version and the pages have bolded subject headings are which makes it great the locate passages easily. The Highland Goatskin cover is noticeably thicker and has a courser grain (which I prefer) than my R. L. Allan Single Column Reference edition. The leather is not as soft as my Allan NASB SCR, but I am confident it will soften in time. The gilt line on the inside of the cover is stunning and adds to its elegance. Overall, the R. L. Allan NASB Reader rivals its ancestor the R.L. Allan’s Longprimer and is a welcome edition to my bible family and I predict will become my personal companion of mine. Finally, after several years of looking a large print portable premium NASB, I finally own one. Thanks to the folks at R.L. Allan.

I just received my copy. I am nearly speechless! This Bible is absolutely beautiful. By far the best crafted Bible to which I have personally handled. Thank you so very much for this treasure! Worth every penny.

First of all allow me to say, I have no preference when it comes to English translations of the Bible, therefore on that basis no bias exists with me. With that being said, Allan has made a luxurious and fine edition in the NASB R1. This is a fine Bible, but in my opinion, as fine as an edition as it is, I would not have labeled it a Readers edition. The size of the main text in the NASB R1 is listed at 10 point and the print is even throughout. Although, for me the text does not stand out from the page, which is the reason I don’t find reading this particular bible that enjoyable. Maybe if Allan would have made the print bolder this would have added to the readability. The size and readability of the references in the center column is fair and the print is clear and even. The size of the font in the concordance is small which could have been easily increased; however this would have added some additional pages, which would have been fine with me. The paper according to Mr. Gray is very dense; however there is some ghosting, which is somewhat distracting and line matching would have easily fixed this. The Bible maps are colorful, although the paper is not glossy and appears to be made out of the same paper as the lined note paper that is included in this edition. The binding on this bible is exceptional, the goatskin is nice and thick, the grain is more pronounced, and it feels great in the hand. I like the overall construction of the bible and the paper, but I just couldn’t overlook the issues I mentioned with the type and size of the fonts throughout this edition. I’m not sorry I purchased the bible, but at the same time I’m a little disappointed and I guess I was expecting something a little different from what I received. I’m still looking for that Reader’s edition and hopefully Schuyler’s Quental Reference series will be more ideal for me. I gave the NASBR1 (4) stars based upon what it is and not what I hoped it would be.

This is the type of Bible I have been looking for,for over 40 years. This Bible excels in every way! Worth the price. Embossing is nice too.

I just wanted to make some clarifications in regards to my previous review of the Allan NASBR1: Apparently, in response to customer feedback R.L. Allan and Nicholas Gray set out to make the finest NASB available and I believe they succeeded with this edition. Although, this bible is not advertised as a large print or extra-large print, the print in this edition is more than sufficient for people with average or normal eyesight. The center column references are considerably larger and more readable than in the Longprimer. All of the print is even and consistently dark throughout in the edition that I received. R.L. Allan is known for their quality British bindings, but it appears in appreciation for their American customers they provided something a little different/special. The Highland Goatskin binding on this edition is a little thicker than normal and the grain more pronounced. I also noticed as the outside binding wraps around the edges to the inside liner there appears to be a more seamless overlay especially in the corners. The art guilting is not the traditional dark red under gold, but more pink. The paper which is 32gsm reminds me of some paper that I have in a wide margin note takers type bible, which is very good. Also the bible may require a break in period as it does not lay flat (particularly in Genesis and Revelation) straight out of the box. The overall construction and materials used in this edition are exceptional. So, if you prefer the NASB or happen to be in the market for a modern literal English translation, look no further, at present this is the finest edition available.
    The approximate outside dimensions are: 9- 7/8” X 6 -7/8” X 1.50”

When my R. L. Allan NASBR1BR arrived, I couldn’t wait to open it. As I opened the box and smelled wonderful leather, I knew it would meet my expectations. Then, as I took off the paper wrappers and began thumbing through the pages, I knew I was wrong. This Bible far exceeded my expectations. That was my immediate response, and it still is.

I have had my Allan NASBR1BR for two weeks now, and every aspect of this Bible is superior, from the exquisite goatskin leather to the dark crisp ink on the white opaque paper. The font size is perfect for my eyes, and the double-column layout is easy to read. This is the Bible I have longed for. While its size is too large for me to think of it as a “personal size” Bible, it fits well in my hands, it’s not thick at all, and it stays open to whatever passage we are studying. Job well done!

I have owned quite a number of great high quality Bibles over the years and I am very picky about what I like and don\’t like. The binding on this Bible is second to none. The goatskin inside and out is perfect. I love the chocolate color, and other than on this website you are hard pressed to find this color. Just great with the gold ribbons. Gold ribbons are wide and long…perfect! The Smyth sewn binding is wonderful and Allan does this the best. This Bible is a little thinner than I thought it would be, but that made it even more perfect. Fits in your hand great and lies open completely flat. Being a little picky the color of the pages is slightly yellow. There is also slight ghosting. If you are a NASB user like me this is a must Bible in my opinion. If you want absolutely no ghosting the Lockman In Touch addition is great, and also has room for notes, but no references. This particular addition is better in terms of binding, ribbons, and size. The In Touch addition is thick… because of the thicker paper. NASB users should not pass this one up!!!!!

My Allan NASB readers edition came today!! I just ordered it on Friday morning and it was in my mailbox on Monday, Wow what speed! Well like so many have already said, I am speechless. I have never felt Goatskin before, and if you never have you need to get this Quality made Bible. It took me a long time to make up my mind and read all the reviews from other Bibles and translations. I wanted something easier to read, but at the same time didn’t take from the KJV. This bible is a sure pleasure to hold, and it lays flat right out of the box to any passage. I want to give all the people who work’s at Evangelical Bible a huge thank you for all there support, and being so pleasant to answer question’s that I had. I will be ordering a Long Primer in the KJV, hopefully within the next 4 months. Also dark print throughout this Bible, All in all very happy with my purchase of this fine crafted NASB. If you are like me and review things like crazy, just order this Bible, I promise you, you will not have any regrets!

Wife and Kids just gave me this Bible for Father’s Day. WOW! this Bible is outstanding!!!!

Wow! This is the NASB I’ve been waiting for! The print and paper quality are magnificent. Pages are a bit off white, so there’s no glare when reading. Ghosting is really a non-issue for me with this edition. Very faint. Type size is wonderful and very consistent throughout. Paper FEELS great.

The binding is magnificent. The goat skin is thicker and so far not quite as flexible as a Longprimer. The color choice of the brown with the gold is stunning. And, not that it matter so much, but this is the most incredible smelling Bible I’ve ever encountered. LOL!

The art-gilt job is wonderful. Very gold when closed, and a fainter red when opened. Thin overall feel for such a large Bible. Great in the hands!

I have confidence that the binding will break in a bit with time. Just read through Genesis and Exodus and it’s starting to get there. I think that once you’ve read through it once it will lay flat from cover to cover without a problem.

As always, Evangelical Bible is the place to buy any Bible. Incredible service!!

Best NASB on the market. Don’t hesitate to get one!

I received this bible yesterday. This really is a perfect bible IMO. It has the thickest leather cover I’ve ever seen or felt on a bible. It’s kind of stiff but I know how supple it does get after some use. I’ve held one that’s been used some so I know it’s gets as flexible as a long primer. It feels really well made in my hands✋. It’s not thick at all and easy to carry. Now the most important thing IMO is the paper. It’s very good. It does have some bleed through but not that much. I wrote on it with a pigma micron pen and I don’t see anything showing through. The paper to me feels very smooth also. It has a slight yellowish tint to it. Besides a long primer this bible has the best paper I’ve seen. The print is even and dark in my copy. Oh one more thing, the smell is incredible! It seriously has a strong leather smell to it and I love that. For my tastes this bible is perfect! I recommend this to anyone who wants the best Nasb reference bible on the market! You would not be disappointed!

I don’t see how anyone would not love this bible…God Bless and thank you to Allan and EvangelicalBible.com😄

On opening the box the leather smell was awesome. As always the product was as good as it gets. I previously had another Alan Bible but gave it to a friend. It was also excellent. This Bible is larger than my other Alan Bible. However I can live with it being bigger. On quality give it a 9.75. Nothing is perfect but this is right up there on top of the competition. Service from Evangelical is awesome also.

Just got this very nice Bible for Christmas. I consider the RL Allan Longprimer KJV to be the gold standard in Bibles, so I’ll compare this version with the Longprimer. I like the brown color of the NAS better than the brown KJV, and although the NAS has a stiffer leather, I acually like it better. I also like the interior binding of the NAS better. It does not have has as much yap as the KJV, and it’s a little thinner, although I think the thickness of the KJV is ideal. The font in the NAS does not seem as big as the KJV, and the KJV font is definitely darker, which makes it easier to read. Both Bible have lined note pages at the back, the Longprimer has 245 pages of topical index and concordance, compared with only 66 pages in the NAS. This means that the New Testament for the Longprimer is closer to the center of the Bible, which improves wear and tear and makes it easier to find NT passages. All in all, the NAS Readers Edition is an excellent Bible, and there are things I like better than the Longprimer, but in my opinion, the Longprimer is still the finest Bible I’ve seen. I’m hoping that Allan will model the NKJV after the Longprimer. I would love to have that Bible.

WOW! This is an awesome bible. The Lockman book block is very nice, all the verses are listed on the left for ease of finding specific references…however, because it is a two column set-up it still reads smoothly like a paragraph bible. The paper is thin (it is the Lockman large print ultra thin book block) but there is not much bleed through due to the usually excellent line matching throughout (there are some spots where it does not line up due to headings etc…) The Goatskin leather is phenomenal, the 3 Ribbons are beautiful, and the smell is exquisite! This is a WONDERFUL Bible!

I absolutely love this Bible, I have the long primer, the esvcr1, clarion reference and a few others. This is the first one I bought in brown, the color and ribbons are sweet they blend well together, this cover is not as soft as the other Bibles I have but i like that, it feels really nice in the hand, the paper does have a yellowish tint like the long primer, the font is very readable, and is not hard on the eyes. The text block ink is perfect its even through out the bible, it is also the perfect size for me not to big and heavy and not to small. With all that being said so far this is my favorite Allan bible also I like the fact that the cover is a little stiff it makes it feel Like it can take a beaten and be luged around, don’t get me wrong it is still a beautiful Allan cover its not stiff and cheap feeling it is perfect! I would recommend this bible for anyone who is looking for the one Bible that they want to travel with and read for hours you will not be disappointed. I have not tried to do Bible yoga with it yet because it is not as soft as the others but that dosent bother me oh and there is very minimal ghosting.

After reading the reviews, and watching video reviews online, I was convinced that the Allan NASB readers was a great Bible, so I ordered one. When the Bible arrived (earlier than expected), my estimation was confirmed! This is the best Allan Bible I have purchased, and the best Bible I have ever owned period! The goatskin is thick, and deeply grained. The paper is beautiful, and of excellent quality! I am surprised how thin the Bible is with this quality of paper. The look, the feel, the print, the design, are perfect in my opinion! I like it more than my Schyuler ESV, and I thought that was the top of the line. You will not be sorry if you purchase this amazing edition of God’s Word. There is nothing average about this product!

This is by far the finest made Bible I have owned and have ever seen for sale (production). Every part of this Bible is handcrafted very carefully and it sure shows it. This was a birthday gift from my wife for to me, what other better gift is there? The Leather smell is very strong and and the leather is very soft, quite unusual for the other Bibles that are mass produced with the bonded leather. The Semi Yap is quite wonderful along with the art guilt pages. This is a no frills Bible, with plenty of cross references and notations. No Red Letter, just the plain black letter as promised. The leather is so pliable, it is unbelievable. I thought it would take some breaking in, not a chance! Its ready to read and design is simple and elegant. This is truly the Bently of Bibles. I didnt buy this to brag, I bought this for longevity. I want to pass this along to my children and hopefully their children. Evangelical Bible and R.L Allan teamed up for a wonderful partnership. Customer service was delightful, since I decided to call my order in. My Bible came in less than 5 days considering a hoilday weekend. Thank you Evangelical Bible and R.L Allen for this wonderful gift that will last a generation or more, God willing. This is truly the finest Bible made today!

I am a Pastor and I have so many, many Bibles. I have 3 Allan Goatskins but this particular one is by far the best! I love the center column layout, the typeset, the leather, the softness. I have never had in my hands a more high quality Bible than this. I have noticed that even Allan has their “BEST”! If you are looking for a high quality NASB, this is it!

  22. Rated 5 out of 5

I’ve never own a high-end Bible before, and given how expensive everything is at my end of the world (New Zealand), I wouldn’t normally treat myself by purchasing one. But after a difficult period in which I discovered I had a brain tumor, and then lost both parents to illness, I decided I would. My last two Bibles I had lain with my parents after reading from them at their funerals, and was in need of a Bible that would suit all my needs and last.

Like many other people who have left reviews, one of the most amazing experiences is first opening the trademark blue Allan’s box and catching a whiff of that gorgeous smell that can only be real leather! I purchased the NASB R1BR, which is the Reader’s Edition in “chocolate” brown, with three honey gold ribbon bookmarks. The subtle art gilt colouring (lighter than on some editions) is simply beautiful, and the Bible lays open flat right out of the box.

Though not line-matched, the text is clear and easy to read, with ghosting not being a bother at all. It’s slightly larger than the standard Slimline Bibles, which is a great size for holding to read. Of course, the covers drape over your hand beautifully if you’re holding it with one hand. Having genuine leather lining the cover (rather than a synthetic liner) is a huge bonus.

As I hope to return to lay preaching when my health improves, this Bible will meet all my needs: for reading, study, and preaching/teaching. I don’t have the slightest regret in this purchase!

The newer edition is wonderful in every possible way. It is a touch thicker with the newer thicker paper than the older model and bleed through is very minimal even in the psalms comparing the new and the old (I have both). Also the cover has more yapp on the newer edition meaning it hangs over the edge more which is a nicer look in my opinion. The goatskin is identical to the old model, meaning wonderful. I don’t believe I have ever seen a bible better than this….perfect proportions, no bleed through, three gold ribbons, verse format. If you are a NASB user get this bible!!!!!!!!!!!!
