I just plain don\’t like French Morocco leather. I find it to very similar to most product\’s \”genuine leather.\” French Morocco is currently the designation for what is a split calfskin. Well here we have a calf split ESV pitt minion…..and I LOVE IT! How could that be? Well the calf split here is a superior grade to plain ol\’ French Morocco split calf. It is thicker, softer and has been produced to be closer to a full calfskin.
I rather like having the option of a leather that is a little stiffer than goatskin yet not as stiff as the french. It provides me with a somewhat structured feel to the product but while still being soft. Don\’t get me wrong, it\’s still quite flexible but a little less than the goat. The grain is quite uniqe and that helps me in yet another way. I have several pitt minions around the house. My family and I have many NASBs lying around the house that we often use. I like that this ESV is instantly identifiable even among all the other pitts. This edition only has standard gilt, but even that is preferable here as it is attractive in concert with this special binding.
I\’ve been excited about the Clarion and just assumed I would be buying a couple in goat or calf. Now I\’m of the mind that I\’ll be getting it in split calf!

Obviously this edition had all the great features that I love about the Pitt. Highly readable, easy to carry, tons of references, Netherlands paper, smyth-sewn binding and Moody Bible maps (nice companion to the same maps in the Ryrie).

Note: I purchased three of these, and one of them had half the title page glued to the previous page. When I pulled on the page to separate them, both pages tore instantly. It looks as if the title page was too short/miscut. In fact the defective Bible is the very one pictured. The other two were in perfect condition. I assume the first was a fluke.

This Bible arrived three days ago and I must say, the calf split leather on this edition is beautiful. The texture feels so good in your hand you just want to keep reading. The size is perfect for a good briefcase or purse bible. Beautifully clear text. Cambridge quality. Should you decide to purchase the ESV Pitt Minion in calf split, you certainly won\’t be disappointed!

Evangelical Bible has provided great service and is timely. I have two editions of the Cambridge Pitt Minion Bible, one in NASB Goat skin and one like this one – split calf ESV. I waited for a sale in each case and did well on each. I find them surprisingly readable for such small bibles and well made. Cambridge has improved its product over the decades. I find the split calf to be more durable than the goat, but not as attractive to the eye. I carry it to work every day. These lay open on the desk without trouble and the bindings are well done. Thanks to Evangelical Bible for their commitment to quality.

I’m a bit critical when it comes to bible design and quality. I have had many compact size bibles in my life time from Zondervan, Crossway, Holman etc. When I was considering the Pitt minion, I was a little concerned with readability. However, Cambridge amazed me again when I purchased this bible. It is readable, elegant, and worth the money in regards to the text block. The format is beautiful, little to no bleed through, and lays flat. As far as the calf split leather which is the bottom layer of the calf hide split from the top layer, it defiantly feels like quality. The brown with the pebble grain is beautiful and in my personal opinion, I enjoy the holdability of the leather. It doesn’t slip out of the hand as easily as other leathers like normal calfskin bibles do. Definitely the best portable bible I have ever owned. If you can’t afford the calf or goat, don’t lament over it, the calf split is just fine. Although, do not expect the Pitt Minion in general to be very flexible when you get either calf or calf spit. The card stock is still stiff either way, but with some heavy us,it will get better. If you don’t want stiffness at all, the goat is your better option, but personally, with a little portable bible like this, I prefer to have it a little more stiff as it can move around in my bag.
I hope this helps, God Bless

First let me say, dealing with evangelical bible was the best online purchasing experience I’ve ever had. They are quick to respond to any questions that you have and their shipping time is amazing. I ordered this bible on a Friday afternoon and I received it via standard shipping on Monday. These guys are on the ball!

Concerning the bible itself. I truly enjoy the poetic nuances in a translation, and I wanted a contemporary version that I could use in conjunction with my 1611 KJV. After much comparison and research I settled on the ESV. I also wanted a bible that was compact and portable so decided on the Pitt Minion. The next question was which binding. I am on a tight budget, and after much deliberation, decided to get the calf split binding. I am so glad that I did, I like the feel of this leather even more than my Husband’s black goatskin binding I bought for him two years ago.

Initially, it is very stiff out of the box which I expected after reading many reviews, but do not let that dissuade you from buying this bible, in just a weeks time, the texture has completely transformed in my hands. This bible is now soft to the touch simply due to it being read and being exposed to the natural oils on your skin. Don’t baby this bible!! Forget storing it in the box, and use it! You will see how nicely this bible works in over a short period of time.

This is the 2011 text edition, which I also knew beforehand and am fine with. This bible has only one ribbon marker, which in my opinion, two should be standard, but if you have some cardboard and duct tape and some ribbon you can make your own ribbon book mark that slides in the back of the spine. No alterations to the actual bible required.

Overall, I LOVE this bible, and consider this a great purchase. Don’t let the fact that this binding is less expensive than the goatskin binding fool you. This is premium leather that softens up very nicely and feels lovely in your hands.

If you are still on the fence about making this purchase, teeter no more, this is a beautiful and well made bible, you will not be disappointed 🙂
