The ESV3 Buffalo Grain is more excellent than we imagined. It is more supple than normal mid-grain goatskin or even French Morocco leather. The Antique Brown is actually a marble of brown shades The Bible opens flat (see pics) without manipulation, which is all the more remarkable because of the relative density of the Buffalo Grain leather. In terms of text block-remember these are exact replica of the ESV1. In sum, another superb, and unique Allan Bible.
So what's the difference between the ESV1 and ESV3. (These discussions are on facebook)
1. The book block is identical (same typeface, references, concordances etc.)
2. ESV1 has 3 ribbon markers ESV3 has 2.
3. ESV1 has color maps-ESV3 does not.
4. ESV3 has Buffalo Grain (much more pronounced) Goatksin-ESV1 has Highland Goatksin.
The difference in price (ESV 1 is approx $25.00 more) has more to do with the maps than the skins. Buffalo Grain Goatskin is extremely rare-please let us know if you have seen any Buffalo Grain Bibles at the bookstore lately. Actually R.L. Allan's owner is a highly resourceful international trader who has the genius and instinct to track down such exotic hides. Our thanks to R.L. Allan for this treasure.

A note about Allan price fluctuations....We purchase our Allan Bibles directly from the United Kingdom. They are sold to us in British Pounds Sterling. Our prices therefore change based on the exchange rate with the dollar. A quick example: The ESV1 Bible has had a price variation as follows: $180.00-129.99.
The Allan ESV offers the best of both craftsmanship and Bible translation. These are our favorite.
"I won't comment on the ESV version per se, except to say it has become one of my favorite versions. The ESV1BR ~ I could write a book of admiration about this beautiful, brown Bible. It reeks of fine craftsmanship and is a joy to just hold in your hands. Its feel is simply an invitation to read the Bible. I've passed it around and allowed the family to inspect it but only after they have washed their hands. This Bible will get a lot of handling through reading it but to be honest, I wouldn't have the heart to write in it. It is still hard to believe it will lie flat no matter where within the Bible you open it. Because of the quality of this Bible and the box it arrived in, it will be stored in the box after each use. One of the two finest Bibles I own - the other being the Allan 53." J. Amick
