I received my Blue NASB today and the first thing I noticed was the thickness of the box and its weight! This is going to be one big bible. Upon opening it the first thing that struck me was how thick the pages were, had to make sure I didn’t have two pages stuck together! Then the ease of reading it was a real surprise, the 11 point font really comes to shine.
In comparing this bible to the RL Allan, and the Intouch to it several differences were immediately noticeable.
    1. the thickness of the bible was bigger than the other two by a wide margin.

    2. The paper thickness was easy to choose a winner the Schuyler.

    3. The opacity of the paper, the Schuyler and the Intouch bible were nearly identical, with the RL Allan coming in a close second.

    4. Quality this is subjective, but the corners were cleanly folded over, no mistakes in cutting the bible, had this happen on another expensive bible 4 pages were folded into the bible leaving tags. The gutter is nice and smooth no dimples, had this on the other bible as well. Overall this is the quality I would expect on this pricey of a bible.

Overall I am pleased with this bible and will not send it back, the four star rating is because of the trade-off in font size, paperweight, and weight and thickness of the bible.

The strongest selling point in this bible in my opinion is the legibility, so if you are looking for a bible easy on the eyes this is the one for you.

A classic! A triumph! It gets 99% of things right!

This is Jongbloeds best. The goatskin/liner, perimeter stitching, edge lined, art gilting, ribbons, head and tail bands are all first rate. The dry stamped cross on the cover is just class and is the simple gilted letters on the spine. Black liner is an okay choice.

The paper is the equal of the classic SCR and In Touch NASB’s. Text boldness is equal to the SCR and just a bit lighter than the Longprimer. Line matching helps so much with bleed through. Beautiful presentation pages (too many). The Oxford maps from the New Oxford Annotated Bible 4th edition with index were a great choice. The concordance seems odd with the red letter text citations; maybe it will grow on me.

Then there is the text. Clear, bold, modern, and free of clutter. BIG. This is a Bible that can be read for hours. The red book and chapter print are an understated flair.

Negatives? It is FAT. For some it will sit on a desk or a table next to their reading chair. It won’t appeal to those who love small or elegantly flexible. It costs a LOT. In a world were 99% of Christians roll their eyes at a $50 Bible this will seem decadent.

    Schuyler I give you *****!

The NASB for many years has been my favorite mainstream translation of the Bible. I was delighted when I heard that Quentel was debuting in NASB. I make a habit of researching and purchasing through an arduous process of exploration. I only buy things that I value and then I take care of those things. I don’t want much, but what I have I want to be exquisite and enduring. Pulling the trigger on a preorder of the Quentel was quite a nerve-wracking gamble for me since there was no physical representation of it nor any reviews. All has been said and all has been heard of the physical properties of the Quentel by now so I won’t belabor those details here. Suffice it to say that this Bible is everything I hoped it would be. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. The attention to detail is flawless. This Bible is the perfect balance between exquisite elegance and function. This Bible was built to last. I suspect that it won’t just be another undesired, old book when my grandchildren get their hands on it, but that it will be a treasure that has grown character with time.

I was a little apprehensive in buying this bible because of some of the preliminary reviews on its size. What ultimately made my decision was deciding what I was looking for in this bible. Personally, I needed a great reading bible. And that is exactly what I got. This bible by itself easily earns an easy 5 stars. There are some glaring differences between Schuyler and Allan bibles. I will draw out a few in this review.

    The pros:
The binding is tight, well done, and heavily reinforced to support the girth of this bible. The goatskin leather is very nice, and the color of blue is a sort if navy which I really enjoy. The goatskin is an attractive pebble grain which looks sharp in blue. The Quentel is leather lined whereas previous Schuyler bibles were not. The perimeter stitching is expertly done. Even with close examination I could not find an error in the stitching. It is superb.

The art gilting is professionally done and brings the whole bible together. I am very happy that Schuyler offered the blue Quentel with blue under silver art gilting. The blue is just the right shade and seems to change color slightly in different lighting conditions. There are 4 ribbons, two blue and two silver. The ribbons themselves look very similar to what Allan uses for its bibles.

By far the best feature offered in this bible is its text block. The Quentel uses 45 gsm paper which is also the thickest in the industry. The line matching is of the highest quality and when paired with the 45 gsm paper the ghosting is as minimal as I’ve seem in any bible. The font used is an 11 point Milo Serif font which in my opinion was a fantastic choice. There are splashes of red on the page specifically the chapter numbers, book title and numbers (top of page), the thin red line at the bottom of each page separating the text from the cross references, and also the chapter and verses in the concordance. There are 32 pages of very colorful Oxford maps which are very crisp and easy to read.

I consider the size of this bible to be a “pro”. I knew it was a bigger bible when I bought it. If I wanted a thin line or personal size bible, I would have bought one of those instead. It perplexes me how people mark this bible down because of its size since it was advertised well in advance of being released as a large bible. There is a trade off to the beautifully opaque paper, and that is the thickness.

    The cons:
The Holy Bible title page was crinkled and bent. I’ve heard that this was also the case with other Schuyler bibles. While not a huge deal, it is unfortunate and ugly looking. The ribbons all still had globs of dried, flakey glue on the bottom of the ribbons where the ribbon was cut and glued to prevent fraying. A sharp pair of fine scissors and 60 seconds will fix the flakey glue problem. It’s too bad this wasn’t done before the bibles were sent out.

General comparisons between Schuyler and Allan:

Binding: Allan has the edge. Their binding in my opinion is considerably better than Schuyler’s.

Leather: Allan again wins out with their soft, supple highland goatskin leather. Highland goatskin just can’t be beat.

Ribbons: I’d say it’s a tie. Both have high quality, thick ribbons.

Art Gilting: Again, I would consider this to be a tie. Both manufacturers do a great job in this area.

Text block: Schuyler wins this category hands down. The 45 gsm and the line matching is far superior to anything I’ve seen from Allan in the way of legibility.

Font: I’m in love with the Milo Serif. Schuyler wins.

I conclusion, this bible is outstanding in its own right. If you’re looking for an Allan, don’t buy this. It’s not an Allan. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a very well designed bible. I would recommend this to those who value legibility and the “reading experience” above all else. It’s a wonderful desk bible, and in my opinion, not too large to take to church if you really wanted to.

Here is a link to my YouTube video review of the Quentel where I also compare its size to that of 3 other bibles. Please take a look and leave a comment if you’d like.

This is a five star Bible. I also own 3 Allan bibles and 1 Cambridge bible, and the Quentel is on par with the Cambridge and is almost as good as the Allans.

The Binding is a bit tight and strongly reinforced, so the book does not lay flat at the beginning and end like an Allan. This is understandable due to the large and heavy text block.

The leather is smoother than Allan highland goatskin and slightly sturdier. Allan detail and craftsmanship has a slight edge here. The quentel feels more like my Clarion in smoothness which great.

The print is hands down the best I have ever seen in any Bible. The ghosting is the least I have ever seen in any bible. As good if not better than the Longprimer. Great line matching. This makes for a great reading experience.

My blue gilt is a bit lighter than I see in official pictures, but it is not a deal breaker.

Ribbons are a bit rough at the ends, so I had to trim the nylon strands with a scissors. These are small details that Allan gets better than Schuyler.

Remember that this bible is a READERS bible. It is a desk bible not a portable bible, as it is the size of a standard ESV SB.

It makes for phenomenal reading experience.

If you love NASB, this bible is a must for you.

The size is much bigger than most probably realize. However than is not a problem with me. I love the blue cover and silver edging. The print is the best I’ve seen in any Bible. I hate the super thin Bibles with paper thin leaves. This Bible fixes that problem. This is my first Schuyler Bible. I bought it over other Schuylers because it had a full leather cover. No plastic in this one. I can’t see plastic when leather works fine. I concur with others about what this Bible is. My opinion it was well worth the wait for the cover in all leather. Now let us see other Quentel Bibles are coming in other versions with full leather covers. Can’t wait to get a couple more versions when available. The ribbons need touched up. A grill lighter fixed that problem. Just don’t leave the lighter catch the ribbon on fire. Now no more unravelling. Unless something happens after I break it in fully which doesn’t seem to be a problem but I will advise if it does. Thanks Schuyler for the best Bible made. I have many Allans and love them but they just aren’t quite up to this. The Allan covers are a little more flexible and are buttery as some say. However this text block needs all the help it can get to keep it for many generations. I don’t need all the maps but they are excellent. I use a separate source for maps. Few less maps and this Bible would have been perfect. Lastly I started to break in the text block and get pages unconnected but found it was a small task unlike the NASB In touch Bible I just got with this one. You will not be disappointed with this Bible. No crimped or folds in text as some seemed to have.

I took this Bible to read in bed. Bad idea. This Bible is just to heavy to read in bed. After about 20 minutes with a cramp in my arm took its toll. Still I love this Bible. Just have to be at a table where I don’t have to hold it. This Bible is what all Bibles should be not whimpy thin page Bibles that can be frustratingto turn the page.

I spent a long time researching this Bible and it became my favorite Bible after just a couple of days. I can say without a doubt that this is the best Bible I have ever owned. I own Bibles from just about every major publisher including Allen, Oxford and Cambridge and the Quentel stands above them all. Not to take anything away from Allen and Cambridge, they are nice Bibles but the Quentel is superior. The quality is the finest I have ever seen. The Bibles feels good when you hold it. The cover stitching is flawless. Happy with the binding. The paper and print just glows. The ribbon markers are elegant . The concordance is awesome. The whole Bible is very easy on the eyes. Ghosting? What ghosting? Not with the Quentel. This is just a beautiful Bible to look at and when you read it, it is hard to put down. Which is a good thing. I had several people tell me my Bible was pretty and nice in Church and I have never had that happen before, even with my Allen. Several wanted to see it and were beyond impressed when I showed it to them.
While researching this Bible I read the word “brick” several times in reference to its size. Size is one reason I waited so long to order but I now know my fears were unfounded. I can say that “brick” is an inaccurate statement. This Bible is not that big. I have several Bibles that are bigger than this one and I have carried them all. I have several study Bibles and the Quentel is the same or smaller than most. I have been using a MacArthur Large Print NASB hardback because the print is big and the Quentel is much easier to handle and the print is so much more legible. Considering the overwhelming majority of people do not walk to church, the size and weight is not an issue. Do not be afraid of the size. The clarity of the text will sway your heart away from the pocket-size thin line Bibles that seem to be popular. I love the Bible so much that I am considering a red one. This was my first Schuyler and I am more than happy. I look forward to the ESV this fall/winter and other Quentel translations. Because of this Bible I am also considering a Schuyler KJV and NKJV. The Schuyler KJV in mahogany looks very nice.
Also want to say EVB has great customer service and was more than helpful with a question I had. Thanks guys. Been a very pleasant experience.

The Imperial Blue Schuyler Quentel arrived after a long wait, but it was worth it!
    Cover:
My eyes were first drawn to the elegant dry stamped Jerusalem cross on the cover (very nicely done). Then the Imperial blue goatskin caught my eyes; it seemed to the same shade of blue as my blue R.L. Allan NASB SCR bible.
Upon handling the bible, I discovered the leather was not as soft as my Cambridge goatskin bibles or my R.L. Allan Highland goatskin bibles. The exterior of the Quentel looks and feels very similar to my goatskin Cambridge NIV study bible but a bit softer because of the leather lining. Initially, I was bit underwhelmed by the exterior. I guess I have been spoiled by the very soft and luxurious leather that R.L. Allan uses its bibles. Upon comparing the Quentel side by side with R.L. Allan’s New ESV Classic Reader Marine blue edition, the R.L. Allan wins hands down. The R. L. Allan ESV Classic Reader Marine goatskin edition is thicker and softer and of course it has a semi-yapp which I have a fancy for. The silver stamped lettering on the Quentel spine is very simple, but the silver Jerusalem cross adds a bit of pizzazz. The bible has smooth Imperial blue leather lining and a silver gilt line that gives it that distinguished look. Overall, I would rank the Quentel cover slightly behind the both R.L. Allan and Cambridge goatskins covers. The Quentel cover is not as finish of a product as Allan and Cambridge especially around the inside corners, in fact, my bible did not have uniform corners.
    Interior:
The Quentel has four beautiful ribbons one more than R.L. Allan’s. There are two silver and two blue ribbons that match the blue cover and silver gilt pages, but I could not help noticed that they paired them and glue them virtually behind each other; time will tell how this will work. The Schuyler Quentel used a synthetic (it almost feel like leather) blue ending sheet which perfectly matches the leather lining. The green, orange and white color floral presentation pages are eye catching. The bible is Smyth sewn and lays flat. I am sure if it has an overcast stitching or not. The paper is by far the nicest paper I have ever seen used in a bible it is thick and opaque. The print, font, font size, and the layout are all fabulous which sets the Quentel apart from any bible known to me. Sorry, the R.L. Allan Longprimer has to surrender the layout crown over to the new king” the Schuyler Quentel”.
    Size:
The Schuyler Quentel is just as thick as my ESV study bible and my Cambridge NIV study, but it not as wide (one half inch narrower) which makes it easier to carrier than both them. It is the same size as my Lockman Foundation’s NASB SCR (9×6).
    Overall:
The Schuyler Quentel bible is the nicest overall bible on the market primary because of because of its fantastic interior, it a sight to behold. I only wished it was bound by R.L. Allan.

I Love the Blue Leather combination of the blue under silver Art Gilding, simply Gorgeous. My I add, I have been reading Through my new Schuyler Quentel NASB Imperial Blue, and It truly is a pleasure to read, the combination of the font size spacing and 45g paper really does make a big difference. Great Job Schuyler. Cant wait till the ESV Quentel later this year.

Solid, well made bible with excellent paper and font. Good references as well. Only problem with the NASB Quentel is squeaks when the cover is opened. This is why I give it a 4 star rating. The blue under silver is elegant and the quality of the cover , being sewn, is amongst the best. Great goat skin

I love a lot about the Bible. My Bible does not squeak (as mentioned in another review). I’ve had the Bible roughly 1 year and use it almost daily. My complaint is that the edge of the leather is “rubbing off” and turning brown. I would not have expected that to happen after a year with the cost of the Bible. I took pictures, but can’t figure out how to attach.

This Bible is worth every penny! Everything that I didn’t like about the 1st Edition has been solved and updated and corrected in the 2nd Edition. I got Imperial Blue. I love that the Blue is a darker shade of blue. The pages look wonderful with gold over blue which matches the stamping on the spine.

The paper has a great feel to it. Very little ghosting overall. There is some but nothing to worry over as this is the best paper you can get. Has a nice thick feel to it. The binding is superb. Wonderful goatskin. I cut out the ribbons out of my Bible because I use small “post-it” style stickers to mark my place so I am just not a fan of them, but if you are a fan of the ribbons you will love them as they are a nice color.

As Mark and others who have done extensive reviews have noted, the font, and text style/layout is the #1 driver of this product. Once again the Quentel nails it. Larger font (11), but doesn’t have a “Large” or “Giant” feel to it. There are some who want larger font but don’t want a font so big that it is weird. This Bible nails it. Easy to read, the red chapter numbers etc add to the reward.

My copy only had one page at the back of the Bible that was wrinkled so overall the quality control is excellent. The goatskin has a wonderful feel. Came out of the box smelling good, and already has great give and flexibility and lays flat much better than the 1st edition. I love that the presentation pages are toned down this time.

I am all over the map here but there are just simply too many things good to say about this edition. Unfortunately for Evangelical Bible I may not be purchasing another one from them for a long time because now that I have an Allan Readers and this Quentel I am set up for a very long time. 🙂

I received the Bible yesterday and it’s been everything I hoped it would be. It feels so comfortable in the hand holding it, the flexibility and feel is far superior to any I’ve ever held or owned. If there is one surprise it would be the font size of the concordance, wow I’m going to have to break out the reading glasses. Overall it’s a Bible I will use and cherish for as long as God gives me breath.

I am at a loss of words right now. I’ve been chasing that perfect BIBLE combined with the perfect translation. I have a Longprimer Sovereign and all. This Schuyler NASBQ just delivered the knockout punch! The grain on the supple goatskin cover begs to be touched, I mean really it begs to be picked up and not put down.
I find the size perfect. Not too big and not too small. And as if 36 gsm wasn’t enough to make this king of the Bible world opaque enough they line match! The blue under gold is easy on the eyes and just enough crimson on the page to make you feel like you’ve broken into the Queens Royal library.
This Bible is so amazing that you almost feel guilty for possessing such a work of art. This is hands down the best BIBLE publisher in the world. So, if you’re in the market for a new premium Bible or a first premium then STOP!! Look no further and buy this Bible. The perfect translation in the King of the Bible world. Hey Lockman advertise! You should be number one on the most sought after translations. Kudos to all! Thanks evangicalbible.com

I just received the 2nd Edition NASB today, and I am simply stunned! I’m stunned by the size of the thing–I was expecting something thicker than my 2nd Edition ESV–but unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, this Bible is thinner than my ESV! I simply love everything about this Bible. It is the NASB of my dreams: a perfect, serviceable size that fits nicely in my hand, stunning goatskin leather, crisp font with zero ghosting. It is simply a reader and user’s dream. I was a bit nervous that I’d be getting something larger than my ESV, but this one is measurably thinner. A fluke? I sincerely doubt it. I am very picky and I can’t see anything but perfection with this Bible. Thank you guys for manufacturing and delivering the best NASB…no, the best Bible “period” that I’ve ever bought! Simply wow!

I own quit a few Allan and Cambridge bibles. This Schuyler NASB 2nd Edition beats Cambridge easily in every aspect such as readibility and attention to details. The text layout is amazing…so very easy to read with the large font and opaque paper. The presentation of the scriptures is splendid and so very classy. The goatskin cover with leather lining is first class. The only thing the Allan has on it is their use of semi/full yapps which I love because it’s protects the bible but again the readibility make this a no brainier and is hands down the finest bible I’ve ever owned or handled. I highly recommend the Quental in whichever translation you choose. Great job Schuyler with this bible and Evangelical Bible can’t be beat for customer service and quick shipping. I’m not disappointed in one aspect at all and in this day and age that is very very rare. Blessings to you all!
