This beautiful edition of the 52 Longprimer is bound in a soft Dark Green Meriva natural grain calfskin with a generous semi-yapp cover, and is leather-lined in navy split calfskin, with gilt line round the inside of the case, and features double-sprayed red under gold art gilt page edges and three eau de nil (light green) ribbon markers with white head and tail bands.

Revised edition includes our distinctive 8pp Presentation Page and Family Record as well as 32pp of navy feint rule Allan notepaper in addition to the dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.

First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.

Our latest Longprimer printings hark back to a vintage copy of the classic Longprimer, printed in the period 1952-1958 under Charles Batey, then Printer to the University of Oxford, returning to a page image that is much closer to the original intentions of the typesetters. This new-old page image retains the large, clear type of the Longprimer we all know and love, but has a crisper letter form and less of the broken type and ‘spread’ that mark out much-used letterpress typesettings subsequently transferred to film and, only more recently, to digital scans.

Printed on best quality highly opaque 36gsm India Paper * Large, crisp black letter type * 100,000 centre column chain references with dates above * Three light green ribbon markers * Red under gold page edges * 16 pages of full colour Oxford Bible maps * Concordance, subject index and dictionary of proper names * Exclusively available in Allan’s fine leather bindings.

Page size:  8 3/4 x 6 inches (221 x 150mm)

Spine width: 1 1/2 inch thick (40mm)

Type size: 10/11pt bold print

10 reviews for Allan KJV 52 Longprimer Bible, Dark Green Meriva Calfskin

Wow what a tremendous Bible!! Having owned the blue, older release of the LongPrimer 52, the new ones are absolutely stunning!!
They are much softer due to the leather lining, and the type of calfskin used.
Also, there’s lined paper now in the back for writing, and 3 ribbon markers instead of 2.
Also, there’s the new, updated text block that used here.
Overall, I highly recommend these new Longprimers, in any color. I bought the green and the black, and both of them are outstanding quality.

SIMPLY GORGEOUS!!!! I now possess my first Allan Bible. I agree with the last review how soft this calfskin is because of the leather liner. I also have the Schuyler Canterbury in the green calfskin which is much stiffer due to the paste down liner and I enjoy equally the different characteristics of both these bibles. I have seen many reviews of Allan’s wonderful goatskin editions and I have to say that as someone who has other goatskin bibles I can’t imagine being more pleased with this one!!
I believe that the presentation/family history pages are the most classy and elegant I’ve ever seen. The design work is in the craftsman style–just perfect!!! My only disappointment is that my box arrived damaged which is the post offices fault but the main thing is the Bible was not affected. GET THIS BIBLE, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!

This is a beautiful bible!! Just received it today and am already in love with it. It has so much to it with the maps and map index, the concordance, the dictionary of proper names, and especially the subject index which I can’t wait to use in my study of the bible. The print is so clear. Even the small print used in the reference material is clear.
The meriva calfskin leather is so soft and flexible. The bible is so well made. I see no flaws in it at all.
I believe anyone who purchases this bible will not be disappointed. Good job R. L. Allan!

Upon receiving this bible, right from the presentation in the pretty blue box, to the carefully wrapped black craft paper, I knew I was about to open something very beautiful. This is the most elegant and luxurious bible I have ever owned! The craftsmanship is extraordinary! The leather is supple and absolutely tremendous! The font size is perfect and the edges of the pages are the most precious red gold. The truth bound so wonderfully! Love Love Love this bible! (I can’t stop picking it up because it feels so beautiful to hold). I highly recommend. Thanks. Job well done!

I just recieved this beautiful Bible in the mail yesterday. I have owned Allan Bibles before, but never a Longprimer. I am completely blown away at the quality of this Bible. I am having a hard time putting it down. This is the one Bible that I have been searching for. I plan on getting the at least a couple of more Longprimers in different colors and in the Highland Goatskin.

I have just received my order of the Allan 52 Longprimer KJV Bible in dark green Meriva Calfskin and I must say that this has to be the best bible, regardless of translation, that I have ever bought. This is truly a very beautiful and wonderfully made bible. The calfskin leather is so unbelievably soft and very supple in the hand. I really cannot believe just how well made this bible is. The print is excellent in size, and I say that as a man with bifocals. The study helps are great, especially with the lined paper in the back for any notes one might need to make. At the moment I am trying to understand the way that the center-column references work, but I know that should not take too long, though. Regardless of that, though, I still had to give this excellent bible 5 stars. God bless Thanks!

This bible is beautiful!!! The font is an excellent size and I love the text block! The leather is so thick and soft!! The paper is very high quality also with very minimal ghosting. I love the dark green color!! The only thing I would change on this bible is the weight of it, it is a little heavy but that’s okay, the quality of this bible is amazing! Best bible I have ever bought!!!

  8. Corey

Amazingly soft and supple leather cover !!! Beautiful old world binding !!! Awesome vintage oxford press text!!! I am new to Allan and honestly didn’t know someone still printed bibles like this anymore ! My search is over for heirloom quality bibles . All I can say is keep looking for them to pop up in small quantities and get them when you can ! The Meriva Calfskin is hard to describe you have to feel it to believe it!

Received this Bible about a week ago from Evangelical Bible and it is much nicer than I was excepting! The leather is extraordinarily soft, supple, and thick. The green is dark and rich. The ribbons are high quality. The text block is clear and bold. I really have zero complaints. It’s an exceptional Bible from Allan!

I own this Soveriegn 62T Reference KJV in Tan Meriva Calfskin, color relevant only because other colors may appeal more to the potential purchaser, I’m personally interested in content and readability, hence I saved a few dollars to test drive this, my first Soveriegn… it is beautiful inside and out. For comparison, I also own a KJV Schuyler Imperial Blue Goatskin Canterbury, KJV Schuyler Black Goatskin 1st Edition Ref. Bible (4 ribbon) and a KJV Cambridge Turquoise Red Letter Reference Edition in Black Calf Split Leather. These Bibles represent to me an across the board view of Bibile craftsmanship and presentation offered by Evangelical Bible, hence this review. Any Bible is truly a good Bible but at 67 yrs with failing eyes, the font size, paper (glare or not, white or not) and print legibility have become paramount in my daily devotional time. Each of these Bibles that are not a Soveriegn are a delicious quality of leather binding, feel, readability and size of carry with various study helps and maps.. that said, my Alan is the Bible I pick up most. Though not a Red Letter Bible I have found it the most readable, be it paper color, font size, darkness of black lettering or a combination of all it just seems easier on the eyes, this irrespective of lighting to the room I am in . To own any one of the aforementioned quality Bibles is a blessing, but in owning a Soveriegn my journey for the “one” is over and I am confident purchasing another Bible will only be for gifting. To the collector I say you should go out of your way to own one, to those who need a really quality KJV with excellent ease of readability, I say do what it takes to own one.
