On many instances, I can’t fully agree with the previous review, but they do make valid points.

This IS a heirloom Bible. The binding and leather quality are exceptionally. While there is not necessarily line matching, the overall content and build quality of the Bible is amazing. The study material is exceptional. I’m in my mid 30’s and I’ve been waiting YEARS for a Bible I can invest my limited time with studying and exploring God’s word.

I’ve spent over $1.5k on premium Bibles in the last few years. This Bible by far is exceptions for a solid translation and learning God’s Scriptures and the study content is exceptional although it does not offer line matching.

I would not hesitate to recommend this Bible to my friends, family and brethren in Christ who are looking for solid content to learn/study God’s word and has a binding that will last beyond several generations.

For me, the Bible is a five star hit, for those looking for heavier weighted paper and line matching… four stars.

When you open the box, there is a felt wrapping and an 80th Anniversary Card. Inside you will find a beautiful goatskin cover. It’s called Vintage Brown, but this is just like the Antique Marbled Brown on Schuyler Bibles. Furthermore, it is soft and very marbled. It has the best two-tone effect of any brown Bible I own. I pulled out a normal ESV and compared the text to the LEGO printing. The colors are much richer. The gold of the temple illustration is a deep, rich yellow and the blues are really vibrant. The normal ESV from China has excellent printing, but it doesn’t have near the saturation of this one. Side-by-side, you can definitely see it. The paper is 31 GSM, only 1 GSM thicker than normal. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s about more than thickness. There was also a paper upgrade. Close your eyes and you can feel it. Open your eyes and you can see how the ink sits on it, and doesn’t “soak in.” The ribbons are long and compliment the color well. I feel like this is one of those editions that everyone will be searching for when it sells out. I give it 5 stars and two thumbs up. Buy it, you will have no regrets! It will be the best Bible purchase you will make this year.

Right away I want to say that I love the contents of this edition of the Bible and this is more of a review of Crossway/ and my experience with them. I could go to a store and buy a $5 Bible but I purchased this one not only for the content, but for the beauty of it.

First, unlike the pictures, on the version that I received, the cover does not have the marbling but instead is a uniform color pattern. That’s okay, but I would have preferred the marbling.

Second, there’s evidence that the Bible had been handled prior to being shipped. There were wrinkled pages as if they had been turned, marks on the ESV presentation box, including one big one across the “ESV” logo, a small fresh gouge on one of the raised ribs of the spine so I know it wasn’t an imperfection in the leather, and unlike other unboxing videos I’ve seen, the orientation of the velvet wrapper is incorrect (hamburger style and not the correct vertical style), almost haphazardly draped around the bible. I also know that the Bible had been opened because I found an Evangelicalbible business card, I’m assuming for advertisement purposes, inside the presentation box.

Third, there are hard loose threads on the top and bottom of the book block that will require scissors to cut out because I couldn’t pull them out.

In my excitement, the first thing that I did when I opened the Bible was to write my name inside it in permanent marker before leafing through the pages and examining everything. I won’t be returning it but I am disappointed.

Look, it’s not a big deal. I’ll be using this Bible a lot and it will definitely get worn out. There’s this whole stigma that since it’s the Holy Bible, it’s petty to point out these things. But Crossway and Evangelicalbible are for profit businesses and I just feel a little lied to when I pay for a premium product and expect to receive a brand new item but it shows signs of use and has imperfections right out of the box. I think it’s reasonable for me to feel let down.
