I have several ESV heirloom Bibles, including the 80th anniversary Omega which was printed and bound in the Netherlands by Jongbloed. I ordered another thinking it would be the same. This one was made in China. I know China has some quality suppliers, but everything about this Bible was inferior to my European edition. I say this even as I acknowledge I do have some other Crossway Bibles from China that I’m quite pleased with. This particular edition, not so much. The leather was soft but sticky, almost as though it were rubber. The paper felt rough and cheap, and the print seems to have soaked in such that it almost appears faded. My Jongbloed Omega has beautiful high quality paper and bold, clear print. Also, the made in China Omega arrived defective with multiple creased pages. Finally, note that the Omega has grown much thicker in this newer edition, nearly as thick as the Legacy.

I absolutely love Crossway, ESV, and my Heirloom collection (Omega, Legacy, Study Bible). But with the move to China, based on this one sample alone, I would look to another brand for a premium Bible.

Also, I would amend my review by adding the hinge was substantially larger and stiffer on the Omega that was made in China versus the Jongbloed which is quite flexible, though the latter is broken in somewhat and I don’t recall how it was right out of the box.
