I also bought the brown goatskin from Lockman because it was on sale. It is a different kind of goatskin without the pebbled grain, but it quite supple, and I actually prefer it to the pebbled grain on the black edition.

  2. Debbie Vance

I purchased the brown goatskin and it was a huge disappointment. it is more like a leathered version Bible and I do not recommend.

This is a follow-up to my previous review. I failed to mention that this Bible has a lovely, formed semi-full yapp, which is quite lovely. And as I noted before, the type size is quite nice. While billed as “large print,” the font is actually a little smaller than the 11-point in Schuyler Bibles. And the paper is delightful. I’m not sure just why. It feels heavier than the advertised GPM, which I think is 31. And it seems to have some sort of coating that makes it feel delightfully silky. While I haven’t had a center-column reference Bible in decades, the removal of the lines previously used to separate the references from the text makes for easier reading; and it also makes for narrower columns of text, which I find much easier to read than broader or single-column layouts. And as other reviewers have noted, the bold verse numbers make navigation quite easy. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I’ve been using Schuyler Bibles and Zondervan Premiers for five or six years (more than 10 of them, I think), and am a recent convert to the NASB 2020. Because Schuyler doesn’t currently offer NASB 2020, and because when they do, it will apparently be 10 point, I decided to go with the Lockman Prime 2020 large print (11 point) because of many favorable reviews. I am very pleased.

This 11-point type is a little smaller than Schuyler’s 11 point, but is still a comfortable size for me. While everything about a Schuyler is a cut above this Lockman, this is the nicest Bible Lockman has ever published, IMHO, and it’s printed in Korea. This also appears to be the nicest edition of the NASB 2020 currently available. Opens very flat at both ends from the first.

This Bible is like nothing ever before produced by Lockman. It is a work of art in my opinion. Beautiful piece of black goatskin! Very natural looking grain. The pagination is very modern and much superior to their traditional one. The print is crisp. I love that you get the full set of translators notes. It’s a full sided Bible but thin and fairly light. Definitely something you carry about with you. The liner appears to be calfskin I think. Trust me, if you’ve bought anything from Lockman before this is a whole new era. I highly recommend this Bible. I couldn’t be more pleased.

  6. Stephen Cole

This is a really nice Bible. It has the attributes of an Allan reader, yet $100 less. Nice goatskin cover with perimeter stitching and edged lined calfskin liner. High quality paper that is very opaque. Very readable font with dark printing. Center column references that are easy to use. Large and bold verse numbering. Best edition Lockman has ever offered.
