I purchased this as gift for someone. It is wonderful, a true piece of craftsmanship. I have the full size Quentel, and I find it amazing that Schulyer was able to maintain the same quality, clean and crisp presentation, and beauty in a smaller version. The purple is a good shade. Some purples can look cheesy, manufactured, fake…this one is deep, rich, inviting. The gold highlights look great on it. Perfect size for a portable Bible. Definitely wouldn’t ever want this as your primary studying Bible or preaching/teaching Bible; it’s just too small (about the size of your hand). But as a take-everywhere Bible, it’s hard to beat this for quality. What a useful size for everyday toting, traveling, hospital visits (if you’re clergy), open-air weddings or memorial services where you don’t have a big podium to place your Bible on. To boot, the pagination is the same as a full size Quentel, which means you don’t have to re-learn where every verse is located on each page – amazing!

I gave only four stars because this is the calfskin version. The pasted liner halfway defeats the purpose of paying for nice leather because it kills pliability. This cover is not limp like the goatskin version although it would be if the pages attached to the cover the way the goatskin version does. It is somewhat stiff like your typical genuine leather cover. So the outside feels super soft like the goatskin version (calfskin and goatskin are not extremely different leathers); it’s just that it isn’t flexible because there’s a thick leaf of paper glued to the inside of it which attaches the pages to the cover. This sort of cover is has no less quality and durability than the goatskin version; this attachment method works just fine for life long usage (there’s an article about this somewhere on this site). It’s just not as flexible as the goatskin version. I appreciate the lower price point…I just feel like it’s pointless with Bibles like this. I don’t think people go to purchase high-end Bibles for ordinary results, which is what I feel like this is. This sort of page attachment is the norm in lower-end Bibles. We shouldn’t be paying for high-end to get commonplace methods. I would rather have spent more money for the goatskin because of the attachment style, but they did not offer it for the purple version.

Still a fantastic purchase in every other regard:) I’m sure the person receiving this gift will be pleased and get in many years of reading God’s precious Word, which is priceless, regardless of what the cover is like.

This PSQ is my second one. The first being an NASB in Buttero calfskin. This PSQ with Meriva is the same in name used for Allan’s Jongbloed calfskin bindings for the LP 52 and 62. What Jongbloed does differently with Schuyler’s Meriva is it has a nice pebbly grain. Reminds me of the previous Buttero calfskins. The PSQ font and size may be tiny to most, but it has a very readable text. The calfskin is not too floppy allowing the Bible to be held in hand- even one hand, and read the whole page. Very well made paste down liner, these Meriva calfskin Bibles are built to last. Same beautiful Quentel block. Only downside is no concordance. But that may be because adding an concordance would thicken the PSQ too much or perhaps be too small to read in it’s tiny form.

    5 Stars *****
(My computer doesn’t allow me to see how many stars to pick, so I’m clicking blind. Hopefully I didn’t accidentally choose less than 5 stars!)
I purchased the PSQ ESV for my wife as a gift (our third Schuyler Bible from Evangelical Bible) and we are both perfectly pleased with it. My expectations have become very high and Schuyler/E.B. keep clearing the hurdle with room to spare! I cannot imagine better customer service and shipping times–usually days earlier than expected. (I don’t mean to set an impossible expectation but this has been my repeated experience. I simply wouldn’t purchase a premium Bible anywhere else.)
It’s true what everyone says about the text reading much more clearly and boldly than just what the approximately 8.75 font size would indicate. Highly readable.
The size is perfect for carry.
Although I bought the purple calfskin for my wife, I imagine the blue sapphire would be beautiful as well. I also own a navy blue full-size Quentel NKJV that is my primary desk Bible–it’s a work of art. (A quick word about the purple calfskin, if it’s ever available again: it’s probably my favorite cover color, so dark that it’s a classy purple, almost appearing dark-chocolate brown in certain lights.)
    A delight and a treasure!

This Bible was purchased as a gift for one of my husband’s former students for her graduation. He wanted to write a personal message in it, so I have had a chance to “play” with this one a little myself. I was seriously considering purchasing a NKJV PSQ for myself to take to church rather than my full-size Quentel when it comes out, but wasn’t sure if the type would be too small for me. As others have said, because of the font, the type size in the PSQ was perfectly readable for my old eyes, especially as a “church-use” rather than an “extended-reading” Bible. I am really looking forward to the PSQ in the NKJV now. I was also curious about the new sapphire color in the calfskin as the published pictures looked a little bright. I can say that the color is rich, but more muted than the pictures and is very lovely. The leather is smoother grained than my NKJV Quentel, which fits the smaller size beautifully. I hope there are several calfskin colors to pick from for the NKJV when it comes out, but I would have no trouble purchasing this color for my own Bible.

This is my 3rd Schuyler and order from with another great experience. I wish I could take a half star off because the calfskin is not even in the same ballpark as the goatskin bibles when it comes to feeling premium. While I love the blue color as it’s different from most other bibles I’ve seen, the goatskin just has a better quality feel. I still like this bible and I will use it but I just feel like I overpaid a lot for this one compared to the price and quality feel and look of the goatskin. All of that being said this is still a great bible. I really like how the personal size mirrors the larger Quentel with the same text in the same spot on the same page.
