1 review for Schuyler Personal Size Quentel NIV, Black Calfskin

I must say that I am astonished to be the first one to review this particular Schuyler NIV PSQ in black calfskin. This is a truly lovely bible and I highly recommend it. The workmanship is excellent. Unlike the full size Quentels, the paper is more white than creme colored, but this is not at all objectionable. Also unlike the full size NIV Quentel, the red letter is not quite as dark and bold, but it is still nicely done and consistent throughout. I possess two full size Quentels in goatskin and two PSQ’s (one NIV, one NKJV) in calfskin, and I must admit (surprisingly) that I prefer the calfskin bindings. They feel quite smooth and soft in the hand. And in the short time I’ve had them, they seem to be getting softer all the time, yet, unlike goatskin, they don’t feel floppy at all. I like that! The red under silver gilt is set off beautifully with two very dark red ribbons and dark red liners. And the silver lettering and silver Schuyler Jerusalem cross on the spine is really beautiful. Since I prefer a smaller bible (like the Cambridge Pitt Minion), the PSQ fits wonderfully in the hand and is very portable and easy to read. However, I do miss not having a concordance. I didn’t think I would, but I do. I suppose some folks prefer the lined pages at the back of the PSQ for note taking, but since I can never bring myself to write in bibles, I would have preferred a good concordance. For me, that is the only real drawback, plus I’m not too keen on the references at the bottom of the page. Yes, they are less obtrusive there perhaps, but I really prefer center column references. Apart from those two small criticisms, this is a beautiful bible and I am glad I purchased it.
