These personal size bibles are my favorites. Great carry size and the print and font are still good for reading. Not too small. These are just superb in terms of quality. Love the calfskin cover and it is especially nice to have that also as a liner. Love the combination of the orange cover and navy blue liner. Not as bright as shown in the picture here but a nice burnt orange. Just a great bible all the way around in the NIV translation.

First, the text itself, the size, the clarity, for a bible this size, the leather quality, the colour, the combination of this rust orange with blue under gold, the two navy ribbon markers: FIVE STARS. This is only my second Schuyler, the first of which was from 2015, the standard size NLT Caxton in dark purple goatskin. I noticed the box is different this time. Gone is the linen like texture with the white paper label stuck on its side detailing what’s within it. Now, it is a smooth cardboard black box with the Jerusalem cross logo on the front and printed detailed description of the bible on the bottom end of the lid of the box. It feels more modern. But I do miss the older box. This is trivial though, it is neither here nor there. I have to take one star off for three things. (1) The misleading name and picture of this particular colour. “Sunfire”. It is really “Burnt Orange” or “Rust”. To me, it reminds me of the orange version of a “Racing Green”. The colour of leather upholstery in more flamboyant luxury cars, perhaps. I don’t know why my mind went that way. But “Sunfire” it is not. I imaged this colour to be the sunburned cousin of the “British Tan”. If British Tan can blush, this would be that colour. (2) At least one picture of this colour is very misleading. I have taken into consideration my own monitor and the usual digital translation variables that we have to consider when estimating real colours from their representations online. There is also a second photo which is closer to the real colour of “Sunfire Orange”. That particular photo would have been more productive in helping buyers estimate the colours they are getting. (3) When this lovely bible arrived, I noticed immediately that the Jerusalem Cross logo embossed on the spine is skewed towards the right, towards the front cover of the bible, with the “R” of Schuyler tittering over the edge. I have taken a photo of it and emailed that over. In the photo, the skewing isn’t as apparent as it is in the real. Not sure why that is. For a bible that cost me less, I probably would have simple brushed this off. I suppose paying the price of a premium bible does create a higher expectation. I feel slightly guilty about this, mainly because this is a bible. But I do feel that this is worth noting, and must be noted, given that we are talking about probably one of the most perfect bible in the English speaking world, Schuyler.

I have decided to bless my loved ones each with a premium bible for Christmas this year so this was purchased for a young woman. I have spent some time looking through it and wanted to comment on two things, First, the colors. The orange is nowhere close to the brightness shown in pictures, it is actually a pumpkin color which, along with the navy liner and gold over blue gilt presents a much more classy looking bible than I expected. I imagine this color scheme would appeal to either a man or woman. The second thing is the font. I am 60+ and wear progressive glasses. I prefer a size 10 font or bigger but will tell you that I can easily read this bible and would gladly carry this size to church or while traveling. For my every day reading bible I would prefer the Treveris, but am considering picking up this personal size for taking to church. Love it and know the recipient will get a lot of use from it!

Stunning bible. Saturated orange color is lovely as well as the blue. The size is perfect for carrying or reading.

  5. Chris Lueken (verified owner)

This Bible is just as great as every other Schuyler that I own. The contrast between the blue and “sunfire orange” is what drove me to get this for my son. He prefers calfskin and there are not too many edge-lined calfskin Bibles out there that use a real leather liner.

My only complaint (but not enough to knock this Bible down a star) is the color. As the other reviewers have stated, the real color does not match what you see in the picture. Other people try and describe the orange as being more burnt, but this does not describe it well enough. The real color matches the Schuyler “tan” Bibles that you see in other pictures. I wish I could say the color is more orange than tan, but it is not. Still a good Bible, but really wanted a “sunfire orange” or even a burnt orange would have been good.
