Masterpiece! That’s the only word I could come up with to describe this Bible. I’ve owned several Allan and Cambridge Bibles over the years and this one plays second fiddle to none of them. The most remarkable aspect is the perfect combination of paper, typesetting and printing that make this an eminently readable Bible. The paper does not reflect any glare such as some Bible papers do. The red accents for chapter numbers, etc. are stunning. The goatskin cover feels almost as if it were padded – very luxurious and with beautiful grain. Also, I love maps and having so many maps in a Bible is a real plus. I was really torn between choosing the blue or the green cover but finally went with the blue because I love the blue under silver art gilt! If the green one had green under gold art gilt, that would have probably won me over!

Just got this Holy Bible today as a 10th Anniversary present from my awesome wife. This is definitely the nicest Bible I have ever seen. The text is clear and legible and the leather cover is neither too soft nor too stiff. The Imperial Blue is a nice dark color and the art gilt is amazingly done. This will be the Bible I hope to use for many years to come, Lord willing, and pass it on to future generations.

This is an astounding Bible! Beautiful blue leather, ribbons, and edges…simply wonderful. Most importantly, the text is bold, clear, and easy to read. The size of the thing (though somewhat large) is quite livable and fits nicely in my hand. It is definitely not designed for travel–it’s a home reader, and beautiful pulpit Bible. The page thickness couldn’t be better and there is zip for ghosting on this Bible. Thanks so much for building this Bible–it is simply brilliant!

Probably the best overall bible I have ever held. I love the blue goatskin leather, it is thick but very supple. The goldstamp on the spine looks much better then the silver on the spine. I also like the blue under silver art guild, for some reason the blue is easier on my eyes when reading. The paper and font is second to none., this bible is a pure pleasure to read. The size alterations also make this a more portable bible. I love this bible and would recommend to anyone to buy.

I had been looking at this bible for months. I hesitated to buy it because it is a lot more money than I would usually spend for a bible. I received it for a gift recently and I coul not be happier with it! It’s outstanding in every way and I highly recommend getting one if it’s possible! The best gift I’ve ever been given!

I bought this bible as a gift for my daughter and her husband on their first (paper) anniversary! It was beautiful, well made, and they really loved it! Every family needs a Bible that will last for years and this one will!

I quite excited to receive this Bible and unfortunately I was disappointed. My disappointment had more to do with expectations and layout than quality of the Bible.

    Pros:
    – Well constructed.
    – Beautiful printing with red accents on chapter headings.
    – Font is easy to read.
    – People at Evangelicalbible.com have been very helpful.

    Cons:
    – The goatskin leather is harder than I expected (again this is false expectation), but the only premium Bible I have is calfskin (ESV Classic Reference) which is super soft and I expected something more like that. The goatskin is like a nicer version of the harder leather on Crossway Bibles you’ll find in any store.
    – There is no margin at all, I looked at photos and just didn’t realize how zero margin there is until it was in my hands. I don’t write much in the margins, but I do write some and there isn’t room to write anything at all.
    – Cost of learning this. Since the only way to see one of these Bibles is to order it, it’s a shame that a Bible I held in my hand for 30 minutes to look at will cost me close to $50 in shipping and restocking fee. I’d likely try other Bibles from EB.com if not for the $50 “check out this Bible” fee.

Summary: This is personal opinion, but my dream Bible wouldn’t be far off from this one. Soft Calfskin cover, Same print red accents as this one, blue under silver art-gilt, but with 9 or 10 point font instead of 11 so that there was some margin, some way to live in this Bible and not just read it.

We purchased this Bible as a gift for our son who was baptized on confession of faith in April. Our requirement was he had to have finished reading through his own Bible cover to cover previous to this step. We were thrilled with giving this gift which we hope will be so well used and read that we need to replace it! It is beautiful and has his name. He has already used the story of this gift to compel younger boys to read the Word with enthusiasm. He emphasized its cost and how the MOST important life giving book in the world is worth it!

I just received the newest August, 2017 edition of this Bible–the one most identifiable by a beautiful raised spine! I have to say, that this Schuyler ESV Bible is absolutely perfect, and is, from my perspective, the finest edition of the Schuyler ESV line released to date. I appreciate the perfectly flat text block because on a previous version some of first the signatures stuck out in a rather pronounced way. That is not the case with this Bible due to a modification that was made: the text block and each individual signature is made to line up flat and flush on the Bible. While that automatically makes the spine a bit ‘flatter’ than the previous edition, I consider this the perfect fix for the previous curved and somewhat irregular block. Everything about this Bible is perfect to me: from the leather inside and out, to the alignment of signatures, paper thickness, and crystal clear font! This Bible is stunning to me in every way that is important. This will now become my go-to Bible for pulpit use! Well done, Schuyler, in my opinion, you have created the best ESV Bible on the planet!

Translation aside, this is an absolutely a fantastic bible that s second to none. Schuyler has perfected this version to near perfect in my opinion. The goatskin cover is soft and flexible, the hinge is much improved and the Bible lays flat at Genesis. Although I did Nike the feel of the 38gsm paper of the 1st gen ESV, the 36 gsm is still very nice…do not go any lower in gsm. The feel of the paper is just as important as the opacity of the paper. The print is superb with the font style, size and line matching.

Well done Schuyler…keep up the awesome work.

I received my Bible yesterday. It’s the first Bible of this quality I’ve ever seen and it is absolutely beautiful. With my aging eyes (early 60s) I’ve probably tried every larger print ESV out there, and have not found any that really work well for me-until now. The combination of print and paper and the blue under gold art-gilt make for a very enjoyable reading experience. And I can’t say enough about how beautiful the binding looks and feels. I’ve never paid this much for a Bible before, but I’m so glad I finally decided to purchase it.

Received the ESV Quentel and it is amazing. The blue is stunningly beautiful. The quality is superb. I have been pastoring for 30 years and have to say this is the best bible I have had in my hands. I will be ordering the NASB and the Caxton NLT.

The Imperial Blue Schuyler Quentel Holy Bible is absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. The goatskin leather cover is much softer and even more comfortable in the hands than anticipated. Reading this bible on the porch in the morning light the goatskin is a deep dark blue, depending on angle could almost be black. Reading this Milo font in low light at evening is a pleasure. You don’t have to be 56 years old as I am to appreciate this extremely legible text. I was not sure if the imperial blue would appear or feel gaudy and pompous in my hands since black leather has always been my choice before. I would carry this bible anywhere unashamed. It is definitely strong enough to handle anything thrown at it, including a backpacking trip into the wilderness or bringing with while working under the hood of your car. Everything from the durability, leather, stitching, paper, typesetting, design and artistic expression is basically perfect . Blue under gold art-gilt is amazingly simply gorgeous. Money cannot buy the desire to read the Holy Scriptures, but a masterful print such as this calls you to open the pages and dive inside.

This Bible was everything I hoped it would be. I’m very pleased with the soft, buttery feel of the goatskin. It smells amazing too. You CAN NOT go wrong with this Bible.

This is the first of three (3) Schuyler Quentel Bibles that I’ve purchased over the past four months and I absolutely love it. I’ve spent many hours researching the EvangelicalBible.com website; have read all of the reviews (and continue to); and looked at all of the photographs many times over. Blue is my favorite color, so I knew my first Bible would be a blue one, and I soon settled on Schuyler as the type of Bible I wanted to purchase. Having recently purchased an ESV Study Bible, I was looking to first get a regular-sized NASB, but they were out of stock, so I opted to go for more of a “reader” ESV, and chose the Quentel. Since the Bible’s specifications are published and have been covered in many of the reviews, I won’t re-hash those, but will instead focus on more of the subjective aspects that I’ve discovered.
Overall, if the rating scale were a 1-10, I would give this Bible a 9. It has much to commend it in just its basic features: crisp, clear print that – coupled with a generous font size – makes for easy reading; quality construction and binding that should easily last a lifetime; and references along the bottom of the page (vs. a middle column or along the margins) that both “frees up” space for more text and thus makes its 2-column layout a pleasure to read while also allowing for a generous font-size along the bottom for the references so even my aging eyes don’t have to squint to read them. I also love the red highlights on chapter numbers, book title/chapter headers along the top; and in the references along the bottom. Not only does that provide a fresh contrast to the black text, but looks especially great against the blue under the gold gilting that appears when the Bible is opened as well as against the Imperial Blue of the cover. The paper’s great; the ribbons are of excellent quality (and beautiful against the gold of the gilting and the black/white/red of the page; and the pliability of the cover is excellent. So are there any things I don’t like, or that I believe could be made better? Well, as the “9-out-of-10” rating would suggest, yes there are two (2) things – both relatively minor – that I believe could be better executed in future editions and which would quickly boost my rating to a full “10”. The first is the concordance. The plus is that there is one (note that the Personal-sized Quentels and the recently released Thinline Quentel) DON’T have a concordance (a mistake in my opinion). The negative is the font size; it’s minuscule. Seriously, I don’t believe it would be an exaggeration to say that it’s probably less than a 6-point font. Why?!? Yes, it might add a few more pages, but not enough to be consequential to the overall size (and certainly not enough to bolster the size of this ESV Quentel back up to that of the first edition NASB Quentel, more affectionately known as “the brick”). I’m not saying the concordance entries need to be 11-point Milo font, but I don’t think it would be too much to ask for 8 or 8.5 point font. Schuyler has done an excellent job of including the dark red highlights in the concordance section, and they’re helpful, but even they can’t overcome the minute overall size of the font. I seriously hope this is something that’s addressed and corrected with the next printing of the regular-sized Quentels – on ALL versions. The second issue is a more minor one, and one that should be easily fixable, and it has to do with the maps. To be sure, the Schuyler maps now being used on all Quentels are really quite good in color and the amount of detail they provide. The issue resides with two (2) of the maps – both of which span both pages when the Bible is open (vs. being independent maps, each of which is on a separate page). The problem is that by using both pages to present the map, a not insignificant portion winds up getting almost swallowed up in the “gutter” (i.e., in the fold of the Bible), and you really have to force the pages down in these two maps if the location you’re searching for happens to lie in the middle part of the overall map. This could easily be remedied by slightly reducing the size of the map and providing a “break” between the portions covered on each page such that a margin is left in the gutter area. Fortunately, this issue is minor because most of the maps/charts each reside independently on a single page, but again, as with the concordance issue, this is something I would like to see Schuyler remedy on future reprints/new editions of their Quentels. The last thing (and it doesn’t weigh into my rating) is just a personal preference: I would like to see Schuyler offer red-letter editions in each translation. Currently, they’re only available in the recently released NIV, certain colors of the NKJV, and will be included in the upcoming Personal Sized Canterbury. Red-letter editions have been quite rare in the ESV world, and somewhat in the NASB arena, but I would like for them to be offered across the Schuyler line – even if in a smaller number of cover color options. But again, this is just personal preference.
All in all, this is an outstanding Bible, and if you are wanting to buy a blue Bible, you won’t go wrong with this one; it’s absolutely awesome!

I purchased this exact bible (Imperial Blue goatskin) roughly a year ago, used it for about a week and it has sat in my wardrobe in its tacky box ever since. There is bleed through on the art-gilting towards the back that creates a very distracting and unsightly dark blue line. Considering how much money I spent on this, I’m not happy.

When I e-mailed evangelicalbible, I included some photographs and I was told that their bibles were handmade (you know, the old shtick) and that they don’t always come out perfect (umm, if they’re handmade shouldn’t that mean that mistakes like these get avoided?)…anyway, I never wanted a “perfect” bible but I did want a bible that I was happy with. I’ve seen countless photos and YouTube reviews and not once have I ever seen art gilting create such a distracting dark line when the bible was opened.

Everyone else’s Quentel seemed to be great but, of course, mine turns out to be a dud (just my luck lol). I’m about to sell it on eBay for half of what I paid for it, not including shipping. Thanks evangelicalbible and Schuyler, you really did me a solid. $200+ down the drain.

I dare say this will be the first and last premium bible I will ever buy. Just not worth the money.

I was hoping that this would be something that could be passed down to my future children (God willing), but yeah, that’s not going to happen. I think I’ll stick to the cheaper Crossway ESVs and let them \choose their own bibles/translations.

I left two stars for the smell of the leather and the maps. The Milo font is over-rated by the way.
