Description

The Revised Standard Version (RSV) is a revision of the American Revised Version (1901) which was itself a revision of the King James Version (1611). The RSV was translated by 32 scholars along with 50 representatives of cooperating denominational bodies. The translation committee attempted to stay as close as possible to its rich Tyndale-King James heritage. “We have resisted the temptation to use phrases that are merely current usage, and have sought to put the message of the Bible in simple, enduring words that are worthy to stand in the great Tyndale-King James tradition.

First time buyer from evangelicalbible.com and Schuyler, but as an Orthodox Christian I couldn’t pass up the first opportunity to have a really excellent quality RSV Bible with our full canon. The RSV can’t be found in decent leather these days, let alone find one that’s newly printed – suffice to say that Schuyler and evangelicalbible.com have outdone themselves well in preserving one of the most important versions in Biblical scholarship and one that was the first English Bible to consider usage by all denominations, including us Orthodox.

I was acquainted with “genuine leather” Bibles from your typical book stores, but I was quite surprised at the quality behind this goatskin leather. While I am a fan of more… solid (?) bindings, this is not a critique to the quality by any means. It makes me only appreciate it more.

I’ve got absolutely no issues to report with the Bible, the text or the binding. It’s quite a blessing.

Now the real question: personal size edition when? 😛

Absolutely beautiful! This is a great shade of blue. Nice, dark, rich color. The ribbons are wide satin, and the gilt on the edges is a perfect complement. The binding is superb, of course. My favorite feature, by far, are the drop caps in the text. It’s just such a nice, elegant touch. I’m having a hard time restraining myself from buying more copies in different colors!
