The Revised Standard Version (RSV) is a revision of the American Revised Version (1901) which was itself a revision of the King James Version (1611). The RSV was translated by 32 scholars along with 50 representatives of cooperating denominational bodies. The translation committee attempted to stay as close as possible to its rich Tyndale-King James heritage. “We have resisted the temptation to use phrases that are merely current usage, and have sought to put the message of the Bible in simple, enduring words that are worthy to stand in the great Tyndale-King James tradition.“

Adam Robitaille –
I would like to add a thumbs up to all the good things said above. I’m very happy for an excellent edition of the RSV. Im glad Schuyler went for it even though the RSV probably isn’t in as much demand as the other translations. I would looooove to see a Wide Margin Quentel with Apocrypha and a PSQ with Apocrypha.

My comment is on both the text block and the cover. I owned a RSV w/ Apocrypha in red goatskin. the complete text block was done very well in the placement of the Apocryphal books. I also have the RSV w/o Apocrypha in Marbled Mahogany Calfskin. The cover is beautiful with different shades of brown and subtle orange in it as well. Smooth with a good thickness, the “MMC” will last and is a pleasure to hold.
Matthew Riegel –
I am stunned at the beauty of this Bible. I am also deeply grateful that Schuyler has provided Catholics, Orthodox, and Anglicans with a beautiful, carefully crafted Bible. I got the full yapp version too, and love them both for different reasons. The calfskin is smoother than the goatskin but still has a nice, interesting grain to it that feels good in the hand. Might I also advocate for an RSV PSQ?
Just DRT’s opinion –
This is a beautiful Bible, period. Bottom line; everything in the 5-star reviews is accurate. As a bonus, in my opinion at least, it’s black letter.
I’m almost exclusively an RSV reader (my Schuyler Canterbury is close by). The RSV is easy to understand and it reads well. The KJV heritage is evident, for example, the translation of Psalm 90:10 The years of our life are threescore and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore. Modern versions use 70 instead of three score and 10 and 80 instead of fourscore. Imagine Lincoln saying 87 years ago, of fathers brought forth on this continent…
It’s true there are typos. I’d wish there weren’t but they are there. The quality of the printing and binding and beauty of the translation far, far outweigh them. Still, if there’s a second edition they will be fixed and I will be able to prove I have a genuine first edition.
I love this Bible, I am glad I got one, and I and plan to buy a non-apocrypha edition soon.

RSV from Shuyler has typos, that EB knows about, but is willfully selling this product with this knowledge. Be warned, EB will not let you return after 10 days. And they’ll probably censor this review, because $.

My fourth Q!
In my favorite translation!
The calfskin is sublime. This Bible opens and lays like an Allan does new.
The format is wonderful and despite being a 10 not 11 point is very readable.
The paper while not quite as opaque as the very early 45 and 38 GSM is wonderful! It is soft and makes the Bible thinner.
The Cambridge NRSV Concise Glossary and Concordance works well.
This will probably be the last premium RSV ever printed. You should get one before they run out.
Timothy –
The newest RSV Quentel has become my favorite bible edition. As a bible loving Catholic, this is truly the bible edition that I have been waiting for many years. The RSV tends to be my favorite translation to use, but like most translations that have Catholic editions, they are rarely made with the care and elegance for which the Schuyler bibles are known. With all the high quality materials that make up this bible, the beauty of the printed page stands out. As one who typically prefers single-column bibles, the layout and font makes reading from this bible a true pleasure. I feel like I am encountering the Word in new ways. Bravo!
Michael Kear –
The Schuyler calfskin RSV is a beautiful Bible! Years ago, desiring an RSV bound in top-notch leather, I had my NOAB RSV rebound in goatskin by a well known bindery. Although I still love that NOAB, this Schuyler is so much nicer! The calfskin leather cover is buttery-soft and yet durable. The French paper in incomparable. The bold printing is amazingly easy for my old eyes to read, and the setting is elegant. What a joy to read and study from this work of art!
A lot of people my age enjoy the RSV and I am grateful that this wonderful edition has been made available for us. The RSV occupies a middle road, a bridge between the venerable old KJV and the NRSV/ESV. The RSV is also perhaps the most ecumenically accepted translation of all time, having been widely used by Protestant, Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and Evangelical Christians. It is accurate, elegant, and eminently readable. This edition is the finest example of the RSV I’ve ever had the pleasure of holding in my hands. Well done, Schuyler!
William Hedges –
I’ve had numerous bibles in my 50+ years of life, and I have to say the Schuyler Quentel RSV with Apocrypha is the most impressive one I’ve ever owned. The paper has very little show through, print is line-matched, the font is perfect for older/tired eyes, the art-gilt edges are amazing, and the soft, durable calfskin is a pleasure to hold while reading. I can’t recommend this bible enough to any serious user of the RSV translation.
