So since 2007 I have been seeking a quality, old school wide margin Bible. I have tried Cambridge as well as Crossway, until I found this, the ESV Quentel wide margin. Let me tell you, it is everything I had been looking for and more. The goatskin is beautiful, the red leather lining is an amazing touch and the text block is second to none. If you are on the fence, don’t be, it is a purchase that will only enrich your study. It’s not a mini Bible that is for sure, but that is to be expected from an appropriate wide margin (think original ESV heirloom reference from 2002 in black calfskin for a close size comparison, the wide margin is just a touch bigger). Excellent Bible.

    This is a beautiful Bible!

I purchased the Slate goatskin edition, and it is almost too pretty to use. The cover is soft and floppy. The red under silver art gilding and silver stamping are flawless. The page layout is beautiful. The paper is exceptional. The 9.5 Milo font is very easy on my imperfect eyes. The larger font size in a wide margin was the primary reason I purchased this edition, and I it has not disappointed me.

I really prefer a center column for references, and was a little apprehensive about the Quentel layout, but it is not difficult to use. While there is a lot information at the bottom of the page, the bold red verse keys and the spacing make it easy enough to find what you are looking for. I still prefer a center column, but this arangement is much easier on my eyes than the Crossway method of tightly packing all the references in the corner. The chief advantage of both these layouts for me is that they allow for a larger text. I don’t enjoy reading anything smaller than a 9 point font anymore so the Cambridge wide margin (8 point font) is really not an option for me.

Some reviewers have complained about the extra small print in the concordances of Schuyler’s KJV and NASB wide margin Bibles. This edition does not reduce the the size of the concordance as in those editions. The font is still small, but not tiny. You still have a little extra margin space there as well because the pages are wider in this edition than in the regular Quentel.

It should be noted that this is a large and heavy Bible. It is larger than most study bibles. I intend to use this as a desk copy, for which I think this Bible is ideal, but I would not want to lug it around with me. You could, but I think the Crossway wide margin is a much better choice for a carry Bible. This Schuyler edition gives you a noticeably larger font, and a much easier to use (at least for my eyes) cross references. It also gives you more room to write, better paper, and the note paper in the back.

Thank you, Schuyler. This is just what I wanted.
