My primary reading Bible is now the ESV Treveris by Schuyler. I use it every day, but wanted a good secondary reading Bible in a NIV translation. In general I prefer single column text and black letter throughout, so a Quentel wouldn’t work for me. Also, with it not being my primary reading Bible I wasn’t necessarily looking to drop over $200 again.

Overall, this is a VERY nice Bible for the price you pay. It is no Schuyler in quality, but neither is the price. The spine stamping isn’t the greatest, and it seems like the leather may not hold up as well as Schuyler–but only time will tell. I do not like at all that it is printed in China, but I knew that going into it.

My biggest complaint about this Bible is the font used throughout (Comfort Print). It almost looks cartoonish with breaks in the letters. I’m typically not that picky when it comes to fonts, and I have good eyes so the size itself isn’t much of a concern. But it will be very difficult to have long reading sessions with this font for me.

Overall, I would give it 5 stars considering the price ($80 at the time of this writing), but the Comfort Print font takes it down a star. If you can get past the font and want a good, inexpensive but overall quality reading NIV Bible, I would highly recommend this. I will be keeping mine but will still spend most of my time with the Schuyler ESV Treveris.

This is a perfect reading Bible for me. The size is comfortable to be hand-held and get a good grasp on it (whether one hand or two). It’s a good chunky textblock with some nice heft to it.
The goatskin cover is soft and floppy. The grain is finer than most goatskin. The Yapp is generous. The silver over blue art gilding is nicely done –the blue is light but a nice touch. Three ribbons (black, blue and red) are a good length, diagonally cut and ends are sealed.
Inside, the layout is beautifully done. The single column text layout is terrific for reading for longer periods of time. The textual notes as an inset in the bottom right corner is nicely done. The text does appear smaller than it’s published size, but it’s still legible and there is generous spacing between lines, letters and margins. (The ComfortFont with unattached letters doesn’t affect legibility for me, but might annoy some people.) The blue colour for headings, page and chapter numbers is very nicely done. It blends wonderfully with the art gilding. I love that there is NO Red Letter text as this would clash with the blue highlights (and it’s a bad idea anyway IMHO).
The Concordance is a fair size, with a double column layout. Key words are in the same blue and the text size is quite legible.
I don’t enjoy the maps which are on very thick and glossy paper. They appear ‘flat’ in appearance and almost ‘cartoon-like’ with their colour combination. Zondervan really need to upgrade their maps!
Overall, it’s a delightful reader Bible for a decent price indeed. It’s no Schuyler in quality, but it’s a Single Column reading Bible in NIV which hits the spot very nicely indeed.

Good reader but font seems smaller than the indicated 10pt (maybe 9?). Lovely to hold one-handed while reading due to the soft goatskin.

I have many Allan and Schuyler bibles and would consider myself to be picky. And I can say that I am blown away by the quality! I was expecting a step down but this is actually the same step or even a slight step up. The paper is very nice, thick, and the tilting is perfect. The ribbons are glued in straight and the text block is set perfectly centered inside the silver line on the inside of the cover. It’s superb. The goatskin is nicer than my Allan Ludlow bindings, in my opinion. Great attention to detail. The only issue I have is the spine could use real hubs rather than the fake hubs with silver tooling. And I think “HOLY BIBLE” should be moved up hub higher. It’s in a strange place. But these are minor issues. I can’t believe how nice it is! Highly recommended. Even Bible snobs will be pleased.

My impressions of this Bible are quite different from the Dec. 2018 reviewer. I love this Bible and definitely would call it premium. My guess is the prior poster got a bad copy; mine is excellent.

As a point of comparison, I own a Schuyler NKJV Quentel and a Schuyler NLT Caxton. The Heritage Bible is very similar to and compares favorably to the Caxton. Here’s how the Heritage compares to the Caxton:
    (1) The Heritage goatskin is much more supple and soft than the Caxton. The positive: luxurious feel; the negative: must be more careful of banging it into anything sharp/hard. Call this one a tie.
    (2) 36gsm paper Heritage vs. 28gsm Caxton: both are opaque; Heritage is more pure white, while Caxton is creamy white; both have line matching. I prefer the 36gsm because each page is easier to grip and turn, whereas I sometimes have crinkled the 28gsm. While I saw elsewhere on the internet that the 28 gsm is nicer paper than the Heritage, I do not notice a difference. They are both very nice papers.
    (3) Footprint: both are the same width, but the Heritage is 1/2″ taller. This extra 1/2″ comes in handy as it makes the Heritage about 1/4″ less thick. Both Bibles’ footprints are perfect for carrying and reading. I give the slight edge to the Heritage for its thinner profile.
    (4) Text and font: Both are very readable. Supposedly Heritage is 10 font and Caxton is 8.75; I cannot tell a difference. However, I do again give the Heritage a slight edge because of the blue chapter numbers and section headings and the slightly larger paragraph offsets; these changes make the Heritage look a little more beautiful on the page.
    (5) Ribbons: their width and length are the same; they both have 3 different colored ribbons. Caxton’s ribbons have satin finish on both sides; Heritage has satin finish on one side and matte finish on the other. If you care about that, Caxton is better. For me, it’s irrelevant.

So, from the above you can see the Heritage compares favorably to the Caxton and, in my opinion, is actually better. I love both my Schuyler Bibles and this Heritage. When you factor in the substantial price difference, the Heritage is the hands down winner.

Bible is good for the money but I wouldn’t call it a premium bible.
One of the string bindings is loose when you open to the start of Genesis.

I would NOT recommend adding a name imprint in this Bible. I received my bible yesterday and it’s done very very poorly, my name is already coming off. Very disappointed.
