The Revised Standard Version (RSV) is a revision of the American Revised Version (1901) which was itself a revision of the King James Version (1611). The RSV was translated by 32 scholars along with 50 representatives of cooperating denominational bodies. The translation committee attempted to stay as close as possible to its rich Tyndale-King James heritage. “We have resisted the temptation to use phrases that are merely current usage, and have sought to put the message of the Bible in simple, enduring words that are worthy to stand in the great Tyndale-King James tradition.

This truly a gorgeous bible. I’m so grateful to have the RSV w/ Apocrypha, Deuterocanonicals, in a premium leather edition. The typesetting and font are elegant and very readable. The craftsmanship of this bible is exceptional.

I am a Roman Catholic; there aren’t that many complete Catholic translations out there. My preferred as always been the RSV, I grew up with as a Presbyterian. I’m delighted by this work of art. I’ve owned at least 50 different Bibles in my lifetime, but none of this quality of construction. The full yap cover rivals those that I’ve had rebound before. The font is easy to read for these aging eyes. It was worth the wait, and thank you, Evangelical Bible, for offering Holy Bibles to the people of the church that canonized and compiled our Bible!

  3. Nathan Keel (verified owner)

This Bible looks amazing and everything about it is perfect. I’m not a fan of black Bibles. They’re plain in my opinion, but this one changed my mind! My first premium Bible in black, and it looks amazing! Even the shade of black looks better than any others i’ve seen. The red and black theme looks awesome together. The paper is more opaque than some 40 gsm papers that are out there. The full yapp is awesome, and i hope Schuyler continues producing them! You will not regret this Bible!

  4. Carolyn Fiore

Beautiful! Superb craftsmanship and materials. Great customer service. Such quality!!!

I agree with the above praise for this edition of the RSV. I hope that other leather goatskin colors (such as purple and blue) in full yapp covers will be forthcoming. Thanks for all craftsmen (craftspeople) who worked on this magnificent Bible. I will likely buy another – or two.

    “Breathtaking…A MASTERPIECE…An ‘Absolute’ Spiritual Delight…”

For too long has the ‘mid-twentieth century’ REVISED STANDARD VERSION [RSV] ‘English language’ translation of THE HOLY BIBLE been neglected ‘at large’ for the most part by Bible publishers. If not for ‘the superb and highly regarded’ 1977 Ecumenical Study Bible edition of THE NEW OXFORD ANNOTATED BIBLE WITH THE APOCRYPHA (Revised Standard Version)…the RSV would have ‘long ago’ been forgotten…a most unfortunate outcome for what is in ‘my opinion’ the ‘Gold standard’ of the Holy Scriptures in the ‘English language’.

SCHUYLER BIBLE PUBLISHERS are to be thoroughly congratulated for their new typesetting of the RSV…it is magnificent! ‘No foolin…’

Printed & Bound by ‘Royal Jongbloed bv’ in the [🇳🇱] Netherlands…paper supplied by ‘Paperteries du Leman’, Thonon-les-Bains, [🇫🇷] France…and with typesetting by 2K/DENMARK, Hojbjerg, [🇩🇰] Denmark…I HAVE NEVER SEEN BETTER! ‘No foolin…’

The ‘black goatskin’ leather cover (with red leather lining) is ‘simply heavenly’! ‘No foolin…’

The ‘full yap’ cover makes the gorgeous ‘red-under-gold’ art gilting even more ‘enticing’ to behold! ‘No foolin…’

The exquisite Schuyler Bible maps (with ‘references’ printed on them) represent a ‘new epitome’ of ‘the art’ of Bible map cartography! ‘No foolin…’

The voluminous number of ‘cross references’ plus the extensive section of this Bible which includes a ‘concise glossary and concordance’ are awesome! ‘No foolin…’

I might ‘also mention’ that modern editions of THE HOLY BIBLE which contain ‘the Books Called Apocrypha’ have the word ‘APOCRYPHA’ printed on ‘the spine’ of the Bible. This Bible does not…

Also…editions of the Bible which do contain ‘the Apocrypha’ (such as the KING JAMES VERSION [KJV] and the NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION [NRSV]…) place ‘these books’ between ‘the Old & New Testaments’. This edition of the RSV does not. Following ‘the example’ of the 1977 edition of the RSV mentioned before…’the Apocrypha’ is placed after the ‘Book of Revelation’ in THE NEW TESTAMENT.

Because ‘the typesetting’ of this Bible is ‘so legible’…not only can it ‘serve’ as ‘a personal Bible’ but it could also be ‘very useful’ as a ‘pulpit and/or lectern’ Bible!

(Also…not only did I purchase this typesetting of this Bible in the ‘classic black yap’ goatskin edition…but I also purchased the ‘firebrick red yap’ goatskin edition too! It as ‘equally wonderful’ as the ‘black edition’!)

As a ‘hopelessly addicted collector of Bibles’ what more can I say…except…

    Blessings,
    Bill
