The Revised Standard Version (RSV) is a revision of the American Revised Version (1901) which was itself a revision of the King James Version (1611). The RSV was translated by 32 scholars along with 50 representatives of cooperating denominational bodies. The translation committee attempted to stay as close as possible to its rich Tyndale-King James heritage. “We have resisted the temptation to use phrases that are merely current usage, and have sought to put the message of the Bible in simple, enduring words that are worthy to stand in the great Tyndale-King James tradition.“

I got one of the full yapp black RSV’s, and it is sooooo nice that I’m keeping it in the box when not using it. I grew up as a kid with the RSV. It was the first Bible given to me, and I learned all my memory verses from it. This edition is absolutely fabulous. The goatskin binding is a joy to hold in your hand, the lay out is really cool as well. I was blown away when I read “The Prayer of Azariah” in the apocrypha. I’ve never seen that before and it was so wonderful to read. I would absolutely recommend this bible to anyone.

Wonderful, a black letter RSV in goat skin. Over the last few months I have been remembering verses and words from 40 years ago that yield only to bible searches in RSV. Today it was “devotion” and I am thrilled to find this Bible. Everything they count as ‘reasons’ are true, I can’t wait.
