This beautiful edition of the 52 Longprimer is bound in a soft Red Meriva natural grain calfskin with a generous semi-yapp cover, and is leather-lined in navy split calfskin, with gilt line round the inside of the case, and features double-sprayed red under gold art gilt page edges and three navy blue ribbon markers with white head and tail bands.
Revised edition includes our distinctive 8pp Presentation Page and Family Record as well as 32pp of navy feint rule Allan notepaper in addition to the dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.
First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.
Our latest Longprimer printings hark back to a vintage copy of the classic Longprimer, printed in the period 1952-1958 under Charles Batey, then Printer to the University of Oxford, returning to a page image that is much closer to the original intentions of the typesetters. This new-old page image retains the large, clear type of the Longprimer we all know and love, but has a crisper letter form and less of the broken type and ‘spread’ that mark out much-used letterpress typesettings subsequently transferred to film and, only more recently, to digital scans.

Great bible! I also own the 53 in red. If you like a bright Ferrari red like I do, then you will love this bible. Great same text block, same pagination and the same great paper. I love this bible and it is a great alternative to the 53 which has not been available for quite some time now. Don’t hesitate on this beautiful bible at a very fair price.

It has only been a few days since Ive owned this bible and also since I gave my first review(opinion). This bible is very unique as stated in the above review! It just feels right. The goatakin version opens up very well but has it’s drawbacks when handeling. This feels like a Schuyler Canterbury but smaller and softer. Genesis is already starting to open up. I ABSOLUTELY love this bible and can not put it down! I have literally owned or do own every high end bible. I read a few different ones a day, but this one takes the cake. The soft elegant feel and original Allan book block take the bible industry to another level!

I was privileged to to have purchased one of the new Allan 52R (red) Longprimer’s, and to have held and read it for the first time today. I have several, Allan, Schuyler, and Cambridge Bibles and this one is unique. I am awed by every aspect…from the printing, which is sharp and bright, to the materials, and the exceedingly meticulous workmanship. This is a Bible to own, read, and learn from. While most everyone strives for a goatskin cover, the calfskin of this Bible is indescribable and worth seeking after. It is truly an honor and responsibility to handle correctly the Word.

This is a very nice bible! The goatskin version opens up nicer but I cannot complain. The hinge does prevent the bible from opening in Genesis but I know that it will wear in over time
