First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.
The Longprimer Sovereign edition retains the same clear, bold type as the standard Longprimer but is printed on a 40gsm writable Bible paper with the highest levels of opacity, and increased margins (one inch on outside and bottom edges) to show the text block off to greatest effect and further enhance the reading experience.
Black Highland goatskin with full yapp, leather-lined in dark blue with double gilt lines inside, this edition features antiquarian-style hand-speckled page edges with red underlay and blue, gold and pearlescent speckles. I have given this bible three stars. This rating may seem low, but after I explain, I believe it will seem warranted. First, the binding and speckling is fabulous. The leather is soft, unique, and sturdy. The speckling is eye-catching, especially over the red. The product is very good. Second, I think the text is less than fabulous. If this bible is the Westminster Reference setting from TBS, the product receives five stars. As it is, I find this reference version lacking. Here are my reasons why.
First, I dislike the phrase “the best mss” when clarifying textual variants. I do not adhere to the Textus Receptus; my own GNT is the NA28. However, I dislike value-judgements of manuscript data in a translation. I think it is confusing to most readers.
Second, the intertextuality is lacking in the cross-references. Unless a passage is directly cited in the NT by the OT, there is no reference to the OT in the NT and vice-versa. The publisher may not think there are allusions to other texts in the NT of the OT if not made explicit. Their opinion would be more valid if it was clear that modern text-critical assumptions are not in play. However, because it is obvious that text-critical assumptions are in play (see above), there is no reason Septuagintal allusions should not be noted at least in the NT of the OT. If one goes through the pain of making a reference bible, I believe it ought to be robustly intertextual.
All told, this bible receives a three-star review from me. The quality of production is fantastic. The text is lackluster. If you have my convictions, consider my notes before you purchase this bible. I am not so bothered by these facts as to quit using the bible, however I wish they were improved. I suppose this goes to show that any translation is imperfect and the only time we will ever be satisfied fully is when we behold God’s glory in eternity. Until then, this quality product will suffice.

This is a classic that I’ll make my forever bible. It’s the one you’ll want to put your family tree in and hand down to your descendants. If your eye’s aren’t as good as they used to be the 10/11 point font isn’t bad. So one more thing save up because this is a little pricey but for a once in a lifetime purchase it’s well worth it. I’m an owner and I’m not disappointed.

Incredible quality and a beautiful Bible. I love the 40gsm paper and the print is very easy on the eyes compared to some of my other Bibles. EVBible has the fastest shipping and I have zero complaints with any of my purchases. I will not be shopping anywhere else for high quality Bibles.
