Our flagship Longprimer Sovereign Bible, bound in distinctive navy blue Highland goatskin and now available with antiquarian-style speckled page edges for the first time.

First printed in 1952, the King James Version Longprimer Bible is a sumptuous, traditional reference setting of the Authorized Version. Developed by Oxford University Press and now published exclusively by R. L. Allan, it has for many years been our flagship Bible, renowned the world over for its clarity of type and our beautiful bindings.

The Longprimer Sovereign edition retains the same clear, bold type as the standard Longprimer but is printed on a 40gsm writable Bible paper with the highest levels of opacity, and increased margins (one inch on outside and bottom edges) to show the text block off to greatest effect and further enhance the reading experience.

Navy Blue Highland goatskin with full yappleather-lined in dark blue with double gilt lines inside, this edition features antiquarian-style hand-speckled page edges with red underlay and blue, gold and pearlescent speckles. It includes three crimson red ribbon markers, with Allan presentation pages and family record, dictionary of proper names, subject index, concordance, 32 pages lined writing paper and 16 pages of Oxford Bible maps.

  1. Daniel

“A MAJESTIC BIBLE.” This R.L. Allan KJV 63 Longprimer Sovereign Bible combines both the majesty of the King James Version of 1611 (“KJV”) with the Oxford University Press Bible book layout and typeface they named the “Longprimer.” This Bible is magnificent! R.L. Allan, through its comprehensive appreciation of Bible publishing history, published this wonderful new presentation of these two elements in this Bible bound in goat skin leather. And with speckled edges! The golden embossed page edges on the outside of the Bible are executed first; and then those gold page edges are overlayed with hand decorated “speckles” of additional colors! This is a high art form in book making. The speckled edges only heighten the architecture of this wonderful Bible. This R.L. Allan Bible is a magnificent Bible worth every Shekel of your hard earned money!

The R.L. Allan KJV 63 Longprimer Sovereign Bible is a beautiful translation of “God’s Word”. The detail given to the overall construction of this Bible provides for a very pleasant and comfortable reading experience. I truly appreciate the many new Bible translations that are available for purchase, which are part of my Bible library, however, for me personally I find memorizing Bible verses from the KJV translation easier for retention. As always, it is important to remember that reading “God’s Word”, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Bible, when we are here on earth provides us with the “Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding” needed for our “Spiritual Growth” as we walk with Him each day, until we will spend Eternity with Him in Heaven.
