Cambridge has created an entirely new setting of the English Standard Version that will be a delight to read and to handle.
The Cambridge Clarion Reference Bible presents the text in a single column, and places the cross-references in the outer margin, giving the page a very well laid out appearance. The font size is just under 9 point with generous line spacing. It is typeset in Lexicon No.1, a modern digital font which has many of the characteristics usually associated with traditional Bible typefaces – in particular, a degree of readability more usually associated with much larger type. The Bible has 15 colour maps and a concordance. There are three ribbons to keep the place in different parts of the Bible.
The Clarion edition is the only ESV personal size reference Bible with a single-column paragraph format. This is a Bible of the very highest quality, printed on India paper with art-gilt edges, Smyth-sewn for flexibility and endurance, and bound in burgundy buffalo calfskin leather, edge-lined and with full leather linings for extra suppleness.

By far my favorite ESV Bible! Having a single-column paragraph text with poetic settings and side references on 32 gsm paper is my dream Bible. The Buffalo leather and full yapp are buttery soft. I prefer the 2016 text. For me, this is a plus. The ribbons are thin and sturdy. Far better than the ones in my NKJV Clarion. I can tell a significant difference between my NKJV Clarion with 28 gsm paper and this new ESV Clarion with 32 gsm paper. It’s easier to turn, not as delicate, and it increases the opacity a bit. It’s exciting to see Schuyler do the Stridon with 36 gsm paper! My old 36 gsm NKJV Quentel is the greatest Bible in my collection when it comes to paper and thick goatskin.

I have several versions of the Clarion ESV, but when I saw this update in Bison/Buffalo calfskin, I just had to order it, as I love this leather. However, upon receipt, no where on the Cambridge packaging does it state it is Bison/Buffalo; it simply says calfskin. Having another Bison leather bible from a different publisher I do believe it to be Bison; however, it would be good for it to be stated on the publisher’s packaging. Can you confirm? Is this the case?
All in all though, a top of the line bible purchased from the “only” place to purchase top of the line bibles!! Thanks again EVBible.com, I am not disappointed!

The Clarion text layout is single column paragraph, includes poetic settings where applicable, and with references on the outside margins, inline with the verse referents when space allows. The references are so well placed that I use this Bible for reading and study without needing to write in it. I take notes separately and leave the text clean – that’s my preference.
What’s special about this new Clarion? The Buffalo calf skin, full yap, and full leather liner feels both soft and durable. It is floppy but not excessively so. It’s similar to the original PSQs in height and width, but somewhat thicker. This Bible is a pleasure to hold and read. Wonderful!
I have heard two complaints. First, the ESV text version is 2016 and not the updated 2025. I bought my first ESV in 2019 and have had nothing but the 2016 version, so this is not an issue for me whatsoever. The 2025 update was minor. Second, the ribbons are thin. In my opinion, the three multi-color ribbons are high quality and the perfect size for a smaller Bible like this.
This may not be the hot new Bible that everyone has to have, but the new Clarion is a high quality, beautiful, readable small/medium sized reference Bible that I am very thankful to have!
