First let’s talk about the Chestnut Calfskin. The marbled chestnut brown cover is probably the most beautiful I’ve ever seen on any Bible. It also feels unique and luxurious in the hand. When you fold it however, it becomes very “crackly” which makes me question how well it will hold up over time. For now I’m not worrying about it. Stunning craftsmanship all throughout with clean gilt lines, excellent pleated corner work, perimeter stitching, etc.I like most of the new ESV layout changes. The font is bolder, more space between lines, and more words per line, leading to a more smooth and pleasant reading experience. Decorative drop caps and chapter headings adds a nice elegant touch so the layout doesn’t look too plain and boring, but not gaudy as well. The verse numbers are no longer bold and are much smaller than the previous ESV typesetting, making them much harder to find. I’ve learned to adjust, but have at times found it to be a problem when it comes to preaching, Bible study, etc.The new midsized dimensions is what we’ve been dreaming of for a long time. It is very comparable to an ESV Thinline. It doesn’t feel too small or too big. Still very portable without feeling like a pocket Bible. It holds very well in one handed usage even for my small hands. The full size Quentel in comparison is too floppy and unwieldly for one handed usage. My biggest complaint is that the variation in print quality. As you flip through the pages, you can easily see that many pages vary in blackness and/or boldness. I’m willing to live with it especially since I had my name imprinted on the Bible, but others might be more particular. I feel at this price point I have much higher expectations, especially considering I have cheaper premium Bibles that have near perfect print consistency from Genesis to Revelation. My other critique is the new layout completely removes in-text superscript letters to indicate cross-references. I suspect they did this to make the Quentel more of a reader’s Bible. Those who don’t use cross references will like the change, but those such as myself who use cross-references frequently will find this to be a major issue. Removing the in-text superscripts makes the cross-reference system nearly unusable as you have no idea which specific part of the verse has a reference. Romans 9:4 for example has 7 superscript markers with a multitude of cross-references. Without those superscripts, there is no way to know which cross-reference to look up for a specific part of the verse. I knew this before I bought the Bible, but still find myself wishing those superscripts were there. I have to rely on other Bibles or software now for cross references and don’t bother using the ones in this Bible. Without the superscripts, I would have much preferred they remove the 80,000+ bottom cross references entirely which would have made the Bible even thinner, or would make it possible to use 36 GSM paper.Overall, it’s an excellent Bible with some shortcomings that I can live with or work around.

Love the size of the new PSQ! Home “fun” and run Schuyler!!
The new format, drop caps. narrower outer margins, fit the PSQ better for me than in the new regular sized Quentel.
The narrow yet larger PSQ is super easy to carry and still small enough to fit inside a med-large bag/purse, or back pack.
The new Chestnut Brown is delicious and pairs so well with my Olive Green ESV Stridon and Desert Camel ESV SB. Like the other colors in this same calfskin, the Chestnut Brown smells great and is soft and squishy without too much floppiness! And of course, full yapp is a must!

Since 12-2023 I have purchased five Schuyler and one Allan Bibles. The new ESV layout in Full Yapp in chestnut, saddle brown, and siena covers are exquisite. The craftmanship is unparalled. Recently I gave one of our grandchildren my coveted Purple Personal Sized ESV. Her dad is a pastor and is responsible for making me aware of the Schuyler Bible.
I convinced my wife to look at evangelicalbible.com and she got on the waiting list for a Schuyler Quentel ESV, Full Yapp Saddle Brown Bible. She loves it and has shown it off! Also I have shown mine to many people. Both of us grew up with the KJ version. As we matured we experienced the NKJ and NIV versions. A seven year Bible study, teaching Sunday School, ministering, daily reading, visiting The Holy Land several times and more have enriched our experiences.

Pictures do not do this Bible justice. The binding and gilt feel and look like a custom Bible. Pages are not as glossy as some modern bible printings, and have a beautiful cream color. Layout and typesetting is perfect. I was undecided on the regular size versus the personal size, but very happy with the choice on the personal size. Very readable, and the perfect size for carrying to church. Truly heirloom quality.

Both the New ESV Layout and the Chestnut cover are a ten out of then!

I have held and seen so many Schuyler Bibles over the years, and I cannot stress it enough: Chestnut and Desert Camel are second to none in my opinion. With Chestnut and Desert Camel, you feel like you are holding a $400 bible! Amazing quality and craftmanship.

    Great Job!
