I once fought off a pack of wild dogs with my new Schuyler Personal Size Quentel NLT translation.
Now, to be fair, the Bible itself was never in danger. The calfskin is far too beautiful for that kind of abuse. But holding this thing in your hand does give you the confidence of a 12th-century monk carrying illuminated manuscripts through Viking territory.
Jokes aside, this is one of the finest Bibles I have ever owned.
The Personal Size Quentel somehow manages to balance portability with readability better than almost anything else on the market. Most “personal size” Bibles force you into microscopic font or cramped layouts, but Schuyler pulled off something impressive here. The text remains comfortable to read, the line matching is excellent, and the paper quality minimizes bleed-through remarkably well.
The NLT translation shines in this format. It reads smoothly, clearly, and naturally, making it excellent for devotional reading, teaching preparation, or extended study sessions. There is a warmth to the NLT that pairs beautifully with the elegance of the PSQ design.
And then there’s the craftsmanship.
The leather is outstanding—soft, flexible, and premium without feeling fragile. The edge-lined construction allows the Bible to open naturally and lay comfortably in the hand. The art-gilt pages, ribbons, and overall fit and finish remind you that this wasn’t mass-produced carelessly; it was designed to become a lifelong companion.
What really surprised me is how often I reach for it. Some premium Bibles become “shelf queens”—beautiful to look at but too cumbersome or delicate for daily use. This isn’t that. The Personal Size Quentel invites use. It feels equally at home at a coffee table, in a pastor’s office, or carried into church week after week.
At the end of the day, a Bible should draw you toward Scripture, not distract you from it. This one does exactly that. The craftsmanship honors the text without overshadowing it.
Also, if the wild dogs return, I remain cautiously optimistic.
