I really, really liked this bible, except for one glaring defect. Line-matching is an essential (and specifically advertised) feature of this bible, to “avoid see-through”. But a very significant portion of the copy I received was was severely unmatched. For entire books, one page was different than the next, and with the thinness of the paper and the beautiful, heavy typeset it created grey, triple mismatched pages with sentences going backwards and forwards at each place. I can easily read backwards fluently and so two forward sentences and one backwards all in overlapping rows was overwhelming for me.
I contacted Schuyler and was told it was NOT considered a defect for the line-matching (again, a listed, essential feature) to be defective. When I opened that email I was pretty unhappy; to be honest I was sinfully angry. Immediately I wrote a scathing review and a two-star rating (I think) and then repented and asked Schuyler to delete the review until I could approach the task with self-control.
I tried to make it work. But I soon found myself avoiding entire books of the bible, reading through the other parts and then switching bibles when I encountered the parts that were misprinted, all the while carrying this sense of being baited and switched into buying a defective product. Eventually I gave it away and just went back to my beat up old faithful with perfect line-matching from some made-in-China manufacturer. Depressing, but it works.
I am still pro-Schuyler, I love what they’re trying to do and I think they do make–usually–a great, reasonably priced premium bible. I know this because prior to my own disappointment I successfully encouraged multiple people within my circles to purchase Schuyler products, and their versions are flawless. Nevertheless, I don’t think I can bring myself to buy one again or recommend them again to a friend; in fact I have discouraged people from purchasing them by simply sharing my experience. I became a kind of brand ambassador for a brief moment, as I tend to do, and so people do occasionally ask what happened to that “bible I liked so much”. I just tell them, without malice or exaggeration, what happened and that’s enough to dissuade them right away from purchasing their own. I take no pleasure in it, but my conscience demands I just tell the plain truth and that is how it works out.
Just looking at the image of that dark purple Treveris makes me kind of sad, not just because mine looked just like it but more because I know firsthand that if the typeset (or, presumably, some other feature) is defective that Schuyler will dismiss their customer’s claim and leave them with the substandard copy and an expression of mild sympathy. Kind of vanquishes my enthusiasm for the brand.
So, buy one if you like the features, just know they aren’t guaranteed. If you get a good copy, which is very likely, it will serve you long and well. The parts of mine that were good were REALLY GOOD. But if quality control end up being an issue for you, i think you’ll either have to learn to like it, or do as I did and give to someone who doesn’t have anything better. In any case, God will be glorified and he’ll sort everything out. May God bless Schuyler to do the “Oholiab” (their own chosen narrative) and continue improving and producing bibles for the glory of God. I do exhort them, however, to consider the value of discouraging loyal customers over quality control replacement issues, especially when the issue relates to the actual reading of the scriptures.

I received my Dark Purple Schuyler Treveris Bible yesterday day and cannot express how relieved I was. I admit to being a bit hesitant to order purple, but I loved the blue gilded pages contrasted the leather cover on the website so, with great trepidation, I took a chance and placed my order.
Upon receipt, I could not be happier! The purple is less of a purple and almost a royal grey/brown. There is enough purple to differentiate among my other bibles but not purple enough to look like a children’s book. Plus the Full Yapp is a wonderful bonus – this Bible is simply exquisite!
Thank you for your help and for your exceptional craftsmanship. I look forward to reading this for years to come!

This is a beautiful premium Bible. I love the dark purple goatskin and the navy calfskin liner. The paper is beautiful quality, nice and smooth. The 10 point font is great, and the typesetting is uncluttered. I like the full yap it adds a touch of luxury to this Bible. I would highly recommend Schuyler Bibles due to the outstanding design and quality of their Bibles.
