Alan Gibble (verified owner) –
I have an NAS original Quentel and an ESV – the 1st ones they published, but at age 72 with arthritic wrists I find them a bit heavy to hold. I also have the 1st ESV and NAS PSQs which I find the font a bit too small for daily reading, though they work great in my study for quick reference checking and I take the ESV to church because I like its portability and its easy enough to follow along there. I also have the Goatskin Crossway multivolume Reader’s Bible, which I find ideal but for one thing – with not having the entire Bible in one binding I cannot flip to another book if I want to cross-check or reference something.
This brings it all in one package. A bit heavier than the PSQ and slightly larger footprint, but not by much. The 10 point font is bolder than the PSQ (originals) and is very easy to read. No bleed through. Generally I like a 2 column approach better but I loved the Crossway and this is very much like that, so no problem there. The ribbons are nice, only wish they were a bit thinner, and the one is pinched a bit at the top – which I have had happen before on high end Bibles. The crimson aniline distressed leather is very soft and pliable and a bit lighter than what I had hoped for but that can be darkened a bit. I do like the red as a switch from black and browns. The texture is noticeably more distressed on the front than the rear but is really only noticeable if one bends the cover backwards. It is just a bit thicker in the book block than listed on the description – maybe a 1/16″. The yapp is generous to say the least but I like a full yapp for protecting the edges when carrying or transporting. The overall footprint, not counting the yapp, is nearly the same as the original PSQ.
Overall, an excellent holdable and portable and very readable Bible from Schuyler as I would expect from owning others from them. Having a few Allans, I would say that they are of better binding quality than the English company. Great product.
