5 reviews for Zondervan NRSV Single Column Reference Bible, Premium Goatskin Leather, Black, Premier Collection

  1. Truck

Quite possibly the easiest to read Bible I own. Print size is excellent, line spacing and line length are perfect, paper is plenty opaque. Margins are good enough for a quick note if you are that kind of person.

References are sparse but adequate. The cover of course is very nice, as is the art gilt in purple and the nice ribbons. The goatskin does not seem to be quite on the level of a Netherlands printed Cambridge but is certainly high quality and the binding/sewing seems a little “looser” than a Jongbloed. The end result is the spine is more liquid in the hands out of the box, less break-in time is needed.

This Bible is big and relatively heavy, but the laws of physics demand that when you expect a Bible typeset like this.

All told the only complaint I have with this Bible is where it is printed. I’d have paid more to own one printed in a free country, but I don’t have that option at present.

  2. Wayne Williams

Amazing! This is an incredible Bible and I would say the best offering from Zondervan. The gold and purple gilding is beyond beautiful and looks fantastic when the Bible is open. The font is different from the Thomas Nelson Premier but still just as easy to read. This is now tied with my favorite Bible right now and I can highly recommended this for everyone.

  3. Jim Williams

This is a beautiful Bible. I won’t enumerate the many features that are already found in the description on this website. I will just say that the leather is soft and supple, the print is dark and very readable, and it features overcast stitching. For me, this Bible’s strength is also its weakness: while the print is dark and readable, I find the print to be too bold. I feel like the text is screaming at me, much like an email written in all caps. To be clear, the text is not written in all caps, but for me it lends a similar feeling. Yet for the price, it’s hard to beat the quality and hard for me to justify an additional $90.00 for a Cambridge cowhide. As another reviewer said, “after balancing the cost, readability, and probably quality, this Bible deserves consideration.” Well said. And I agree that it has a mild, unusual smell.

  4. Robert

Such a beautiful Bible. The smell and feel make me want to keep picking it up to read (first time reading the NRSV). Very readable font and format.

  5. Just D. Tracey’s opinion

This to be an attractive and highly readable Bible (IMHO). The font is crisp, bold, and all black letter ( a plus for me). The purple under gold art gilding is beautiful and there is a helpful 60 page glossary and concordance. The eight maps have good eye-appeal too. They are on a glossy card stock but I have no problem with that. Another good feature is the EB price of $134, about $35 less than the other place I’ve seen it.

I do wonder what exactly “Premium European Bible Paper” is (other than a marketing term) and who makes it. It is heavy for Bible paper though and contributes to the respectable size of this Bible. You probably won’t be throwing this in it your tote bag or briefcase but it’s portable enough to carry to church or Bible study.

Overall, again in IMHO, it’s not as “premium” as a Jongbloed printed and bound Bible (i.e., Schuyler , most Allans and Cambridges) for a couple reasons. First the text block seems less firmly attached to the cover than examples I own from any of the above mentioned publishers. Still, the binding is sewn and edge-lined. Secondly there is the mild, unusual smell that other reviewers of otherPremier Collection Bibles have noted.

If one wants a leather covered NRSV, then after balancing cost, readability, and probably quality, this Bible deserves consideration.
