With regards to the text, I find the text a good size. I love the portability of this Bible. It’s basically a thinline but also hand-sized (many thinline Bibles are a larger footprint). You have a full helps suite. The red letter is good. One column of one page in John on my copy is a little bolder than the rest but otherwise it appears to be fine. I would probably have ordered black letter given the choice, however. One thing I dislike about red ink is it shines in the light much more than black.
The day I got it I read through John and find it very readable. The footnote and cross reference indicators are not distracting. The text headings break up the text nicely.
I prefer center column references if I’m going to have references. When they’re all at the bottom of the page it just gets to be too hard to find them. For this reason I don’t like most Schuyler or Crossway reference Bibles.
I like the cover, I have a few other calf split Bibles and I like the cover a lot. It is hard wearing and since it is not edge lined, it lays flat from day one. I tend to find edge lined Bibles too floppy to read handheld. The sturdiness of calf split makes handheld reading easy.
The paper is very nice, easy to separate and very opaque. It is somewhat yellow, which is nice. While I doubt I’ll write in this one much, this paper seems like it will take some writing better than the thinner 28gsm paper in other Bibles (like Crossway’s Heirloom line). I may add my own cross references here and there in the center column. My understanding is this paper is coated like the 28gsm paper, so I will refrain from using my standard gel highlighters in it because they smudge (ask me how I know). I’ll just underline in pen/pencil as necessary, which is cleaner anyway.
The ribbons are standard Cambridge black ribbons, spaced nicely for OT and NT spots.
I wish Cambridge had re-typeset the Concordance and made it fill the page. It’s odd that the Concordance is squished in the center of the page and in rather small print. Still, it is a great concordance.
This could be your main Bible. Unless you need truly large print, I’m not sure what else you would want to be honest.
