The Treveris is a unique new typesetting from Schuyler that seeks to give the Bible reader a format that is free of human commentary, i.e. without subheadings, references, etc., but at the same time remains practical for Bible study. The text itself is free from callers, subheadings, and numbers, but verse and chapter designations are available in the margins, with subheadings in the header.

This is my first high quality bible purchase and I’m over all very pleased with it. The only thing I’m disappointed with is the page thickness. I would have preferred something thicker that would hold up for longer the pages just feel a bit flimsy when I’m flipping through them. Other than that great Bible very happy with purchase it is a beautiful well crafted bible.

Out of all the Bibles I’ve owned in my life, this is by far my favorite. This is an absolutely stunning Bible. The craftsmanship and design is second to none. I use my Bible primarily for reading at home, so the single-column layout is perfect for how I use it. Because the verse numbers are in the margins rather than in the text, I can imagine that this Bible may be difficult to preach from or study with. I personally haven’t found it to be a problem when I look for a verse as you can usually find where the verse begins by looking for a capital letter.
I can’t say enough about the aesthetics of the exterior of this Bible. The leather is so soft, and everything from the art gilt to the corner work is beautiful. I think Schuyler has the best looking text block of anyone on the market today, and the font is so easy on the eyes. I can read this Bible for extended periods of time and it never bothers my eyes like some smaller-print Bibles do.
My only complaint with this Bible is the paper thickness. The 28 gsm paper isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, and the line-matched text helps a lot with show through. However, I think bumping up to a 36-38 gsm paper like Allan has in the 53 and 63 Longprimers would make this Bible absolutely perfect.
Overall, I can’t say enough about this Bible. I am so impressed with the look and the craftsmanship of it, and it is such a joy to read. I am very pleased with this purchase, and I would highly recommend this Bible to anyone looking for a beautiful King James Bible that they can treasure for a lifetime.

I’ve had this bible a couple of weeks now, and I can say that, in my opinion, this is the best bible anyone could own. The creators really did accomplish their goal when they set themselves to make a hybrid reader’s bible that was also completely useful for study.
I have been using a Cambridge Clarion KJV in goatskin for the past 3 years, and I’ve really loved the single column paragraph setting. It really does help in being able to understand the overall context of passages of scripture. However, I didn’t like all the clutter of the reference and footnote keys around the text of the Clarion. I also didn’t like how far the text went into the gutter. The Treveris fixes everything I disliked about the Clarion and improves on other things as well. The size of the font of the Treveris, and because the text doesn’t run too far into the gutter, means that I can sit and read in bed with my legs propped up and the bible resting against them. I also no longer have to worry about the distractions of the footnotes or the references. As others have said, the Treveris is just a joy to read. It’s wonderful just to sit and read God’s word without any of the man-made distractions.
For me it’s not the most important thing, but is a nice luxury that the bible is also very aesthetically pleasing. Everything from the goatskin cover to the font and layout of the text is just beautiful. The Clarion is also a beautiful bible but this is just a cut above.
I’m so thankful to the creators of this bible and also for the excellent service from Evangelicalbible.com. I hope that this bible will receive the recognition it deserves.

Just a short review. Everything was as expected except I thought the red under gold guilding would be more red. Its hard to judge colors on a computer screen so my expectation was just incorrect. Nice text size and boldness. Only thing Ive read thats more readable and bold is thomas nelson preaching bible but its verse by verse and much larger with thicker paper. Considering the paper thickness (which makes a nice thin bible to hold n read) id say this print is plenty dark. As a KJV user this is the best option for paragraph kjv. Now like I say there is not a better paragraph kjv out there, that said, something id love to see in second edition of this is paragraph headers. Like what is used in the Canterbury. Having the verse numbers the way they are plus paragraph headers would make navagation basicly as easy as a verse by verse! Great Bible, you will read more from this than a reference or study Bible.

This is the nicest bible I have ever held. The black and red color combination, the ornamental drop caps, the text layout..all of it is stunning. It’s about the perfect size as well. Small enough to read comfortably while holding it in one hand, yet providing a large/bold text easy to read. There isn’t enough good to be said! Thank you Schuyler and thank you evangelical bible !

The Schuyler Treveris in Black Goatskin gets a 4.5 out of 5 from me. And since there isn’t an option for selecting 4.5 stars, it’s only fair we round up to 5 stars – but make no mistake, the Treveris is not a perfect Bible. What it is, however, is an extraordinary achievement in Bible publishing and quite possibly the finest premium Bible currently in publication. Only the Longprimer 53 in Highland Goatskin by R.L. Allan can also make a compelling claim for the title of ‘best made Bible in the world’ – if there ever was such a title.
The Treveris’ strengths are quite simple to detail: First, its form factor. The Treveris has, by far, the best balance between portability and readability of any Bible on the market. This balance is possible because of its form factor – its length, to width, to height ratio in combination with its weight and feel. “Feel” being one of the more underrated components of a Bible but undoubtedly one of the more telling reasons someone will choose to either keep and cherish a particular Bible for life or quickly list it for sale on eBay. In 2009, often cited Bible critic J. MARK BERTRAND, penned an often referenced article on his ‘Bible Design Blog’ site in which he advocated for and argued that the most ideal form factor for single-column Bible settings was “short and stout”. Shortly following his very influential article came the birth of the Cambridge Clarion – a short and stout single-column Bible that seemed to hit the pinnacle of single-column settings. But then came the Treveris. The Treveris rebels against the common consensus that single-column Bibles must be ‘short and stout’ and instead introduces a bold and radical idea: a Bible can be as solidly made and as substantial and as legible as a desk-bound Bible while at the same time being as portable and as easily accessible as a New York Times bestselling thriller – all while being “long and thin”. If you are familiar with the Cambridge Concord, then you’re already familiar with the size Treveris – it’s almost exactly the same. The feel is similar to the Concord as well, except that the Treveris absolutely melts in your hand while still feeling put-together.
Second, its typesetting. The Treveris unapologetically announces its identity and purpose, even in the first few pages of its binding – the Treveris is a hybrid. It’s a single-column reader’s Bible free from obtrusive human-commentary and cluttering while at the same time providing the necessary tools for navigation and limited study. Is this a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none situation or does the Treveris actually succeed at accomplishing its lofty hybrid goals? Yes. The legibility of this font is astounding. The font is bold. The font is large. The font is digital. And the combination of the three is intoxicating. Ironically, this font is more legible than the font in the enormous Wide Margin Canterbury which lacks font size and, because of its boldness, more legible than the original Canterbury which lacks boldness/darkness. And the single-column, distraction “free” typesetting simply works as intended. It actually motivates you to want to read more and more of God’s Word – which, if this Bible achieves nothing else, would be a more than satisfactory accomplishment in itself.
Third, it’s binding. Schuyler has carved out a well earned reputation for providing a best-in-class level of quality on a consistent basis. But, somehow, with the Treveris, Schuyler has managed to exceed its already class leading standards. This Bible exudes the sort of awe inspiring heirloom quality that I’ve only ever experienced when I received my first Allan bound Highland Goatskin. The Treveris leather is rich and supple while also being rigid enough to allow its semi-yapp to take shape and form over the text block. The leather isn’t as “rich” as the original Canterbury but that’s to be forgiven because, unlike the Canterbury, the Treveris features a surprisingly generous semi-yapp. (A better and more generous yapp than the Wide Margin Canterbury I might add) And the leather doesn’t suffer from some of the overly thin and brittle leather characteristics that I found to be present in the Wide Margin Canterbury. Also, the paper is wonderful. I’ve never seen paper be this thin, yet feel so substantial between the fingers such as the paper featured here.
The Treveris’ weaknesses are also quite simple to detail: First, lack of a “King’s English Dictionary”. I think it’s quite a shame and rather ironic that a Bible would take two steps forward in striving to make the KJV more accessible via a single-column reader’s design, and in the same breath, take one step back by making the KJV inaccessible via excluding a KJV dictionary to help modern readers decipher some of the words that have changed meaning since the old days of the King’s English. The Canterbury features this gem of a tool and I hope Schuyler realizes that perhaps it was underestimating the consumer appreciation for a dictionary and would consider including adding it in future editions of the Treveris.
Second, the corner work and gilding spray. The corner work is good. It’s neat and it’s tight. Better than 95% of anything else you’d find out there. But, compared to R.L. Allan, it’s not great. Schuyler continues to employ the common method of “cut-and-glue” (cutting up and glueing its corners) instead of employing the rare but higher-quality method of pleating its corners (folding or doubling the leather back upon itself) – like R.L. Allan does. I understand that pleating leather corners takes more time and costs more to produce – but if Schuyler’s goal is to provide the highest level of quality craftsmanship, then it owes it to itself and to its own mission statement to take this next step in its publishing journey. That, along with the gilding spray are areas the Treveris could improve upon. The red under gold spray is rather light. I wish it was double-sprayed or, if it is double-sprayed, I wish it was a bit darker. One only has to open up any Allan Longprimer to see how much more appealing double-sprayed and/or dark gilding spray is to the human eye.
And that’s it! Overall, a great Bible. I’d highly recommend this Bible to anyone. It’s as portable as the great Cambridge Concord, as legible as the Allan Longprimer 63, and as accessible as the Cambridge Clarion. The only type of person I wouldn’t recommend it to would be preachers looking for a Bible of which to preach from the pulpit – while the navigation system is good enough for everyday usage it isn’t the most ideal for quickly navigating and expounding upon in a moment’s notice. It’s certainly doable but not as ideal a navigation system as what you’d find in a traditional double column setting. I’m so enamored with the Treveris I’ve gone ahead and purchased the Slate Gray as well. And as always, EvangelicalBible.com was best-in-class.
